After serving five years in Belmarsh jail in England, the founder of WikiLeaks was released and is currently traveling back to Australia. His wife, Stella Morris, broke the news to the globe by posting a happy photo on the steps of the aircraft that would return him to his own country. Based on information obtained from WikiLeaks, the High Court of London released him on bond following a deal with the US Department of Justice.

The founder of WikiLeaks has consented to enter a guilty plea to the allegation of conspiring to obtain and distribute material related to national defense, as reported by the Reuters agency. As a result of the agreement that his attorneys have reached with the US Department of Justice, the prosecution will be able to request a sentence of 62 months in prison, which is the same amount of time that Assange has already served in the UK while battling extradition.

On June 24, Julian Assange departed the highest security prison at Belmarsh after serving 1,901 days there. The High Court in London granted him bail, and he was freed in the afternoon at Stansted Airport, where he boarded an aircraft and left the country. This is the outcome of a worldwide movement that involved legislators, press freedom advocates, grassroots organizers, leaders from all political stripes, and even the United Nations. This made room for protracted talks with the US Department of Justice that produced an agreement that hasn't been properly sealed yet. He will soon be reunited with his wife Stella Assange and their children, who have only known their father from behind bars, after spending more than five years alone in a 2 by 3 meter cell for 23 hours a day. By publishing ground-breaking reports on government corruption and violations of human rights, WikiLeaks has made powerful individuals answerable for their deeds. Julian has paid a heavy price as editor-in-chief for these values and the public's right to information. Our freedom is Julian's freedom.
