Hawaiian BBQ In The Foodcourt
I arrived in the outlet mall in Yokohama Bayside past 4 PM but before shopping, I figured I should grab a bite since I haven't eaten anything since morning. I was eyeing a cafe when I entered but @appleeatingapple was in the foodcourt so I immediately scrapped the idea of having an egg benedict.
The food court was so huge. It was in a separate building from the main outlet mall, and to get there, you have to cross the foot bridge. It was located on the 2nd floor of the mall, but there were also restaurants on the 1st.
They have a lot of tables and chairs and it wasn't crowded on a Saturday! I could choose wherever and even spend time here without getting bothered. I love they have an area where you could see the marina from here but we didn't sit by the windows. There was also an area for kids, and they even have like a parking lot for the strollers. It was fun to watch. And what I super like was the table where there was an outlet, so you could charge your gadgets and probably can use your laptops there.
There weren't a lot of shops that I like though, I mean I wasn't craving for anything so it was hard to decide. The options were different - there's teppanyaki, Chinese food, ramen, curry and burgers. The one in the middle caught my attention so I went there.
Merengue was the name of the shop and it was a Hawaiian Steak & BBQ joint. I got convinced seeing the steak and the garlic shrimps but I ordered their porkchops in the end. It's been a while since I had good porkchops so I settled for that. Besides, it looks so delicious in the photos.
A random thought crossed my mind after ordering.
If I eat here, will I taste a bit of Hawaii?
I had to wait for a few minutes for my order and when it was ready, I was asked to choose 3 sides.
I went back to the table and happily savored my first meal of the day. I couldn't wait to try the porkchops. Just look at it, it seems so inviting!
First munch and I thought I'd be tasting the BBQ flavor but it was lacking something. The taste isn't that bland but it seems that the juices didn't penetrate the meat. Probably they didn't marinate or what. Either way, I didn't like it and was disappointed. Looks could be deceiving indeed!
I took a bite of everything in my plate. The sweet corn was cold and I think it lacks butter. The broccoli was nice, I mean it was okay. I could taste the flavors. The macaroni was bland.
Good thing, the mashed potatoes were good. At least there was something delicious in my plate. I wasn't sure what this was in the middle of the mash, but it added the flavors that I like on it.
Even when I was a bit disappointed with my first meal of the day, I still finished everything on my plate, not even a speck could be seen. I was that hungry. This week at home, I'll try making BBQ porkchop so this memory will be replaced by something good. I just don't know yet how to make the perfect BBQ sauce. If you know, please teach me in the comments! 😉
Thanks for reading!
See you around! じゃあ、またね!
With love,
All photos are taken using my phone unless stated otherwise.
ahahahaah I remember the way you tasted the food one by one 😆😆😆
Just like the judges in masterchef LOL
huleeeee!
HAHAHAA
They look so delicious sa photos pero may mga food court talaga na masarap pag masdan yung mga pagkain pero di naman pala talaga masarap. 😂
Or maybe I just had high expectations 😂
My friend got something else from another shop in the foodcourt and she didn't have any complaints. I only had complaints on mine 😁
Simot talaga? Para sulit bayad haha
HAHAHA oo syempre, medj mahal pa naman food
Wow I'm craving to those pictures you show, I also love barbecue, when me and my friends got bonding at night we immediately go to barbecue restaurant, I hope you enjoy your day out there
BBQ is best when bonding with friends. I still like the streetfood BBQ in Cebu better than this though
That did look tasty. One thing I was shocked at when I went to Hawaii many years was the huge Japanese influence. So thinking you had a piece of Hawaii you may well have done as the odds were it was a bit of Japan in Hawaii if that makes any sense at all!
It did to me 🤣
There are lots of Japanese who likes Hawaii.. it's like their vacation place.
how does hawaiian taste like?
Cebu's better~ minus the dust 😂
The place looks so clean. And their foods looks delicious in the picture but sadly it was just in the picture hahaha.
That's a good idea to make your own BBQ porkchop so that you can achieve the taste you want.
IKR! Though I've already forgotten how to make the BBQ sauce 😂
just try to ask some friends there
I find food court food are always a bit so so.. unless it's an outlet from a well established restaurant.
Maybe should go for the 人氣 no 1 and 2 sides next time, it might be a safer option. What are those little sticks in your macaroni?
I should have chosen them, no? If I'll be there next time, I'll probably try them. Who knows, maybe it's a better taste.
Lamia ug nawong sa bbq gi gutom ko😭 hahaha char
Hahahahaha char! mas lami pang baligya sa dalan hehe
I loved your writing because it brings us all some emotions and after that appetizing wave I hoped it would meet your expectations, but hey, things happen. I hope you can enjoy and have good gastronomic experiences in the next few days, greetings 🤗
I sure hope so! So far I've been eating good food so I'm about to forget this disappointing experience 😂
I'm still hoping to get a good BBQ food though.
Thanks for the appreciation! I'm surprised!
If your talking about the mashed potatoes it is what is called gravy.
I always buy my BBQ sauce, haven't ventured to make my own. Sorry I'm no help to you there.
BTW I ran into a bad purchased lunch yesterday. Maybe I sent you bad juju or you sent me, haha. Take care and let the next meal be good for us both 😊
I thought gravy is something soup-y like the ones in KFC 😅
Ah no worries on that BBQ sauce. I think it's also better to buy than make my own for now. I tried making one before but I couldn't get the taste that I wanted. I haven't tried lately though. Probably soon I'll try once more if I can't find it in the supermarkets.
Oh no! I hope we'll have good food so soon!
Oh there are lots of different types of gravy. The one on your mashed potatoes looks like a meat base one, not meat in it but made with meat broth most likely. KFC I think uses a milk chicken base.
Yeah I need good food it's a bummer to pay for food that doesn't taste right. Take care 😊
Ohhh I didn't know about the meat base gravy. I should have done my research hehe
Agree! Hope you'll have great lunch soon~
Take care too!
