A retrospective gallery (TBT)
I'm not going to talk about a specific memory, but rather how this series of photographs I'm exhibiting for this occasion, each one brings back memories of many circumstances that I hope have to do with the moment of those images. Well, that's how I see it when I look at these photographs. Each one brings back memories beyond that day, because I'm not really one to portray every important thing in my life, much less to withdraw from myself. I only use other images as references that I relate to what happened that day.
For example, the cat silhouette, I remember it was the first day we arrived in the city of Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela. I was checking and tidying up the entire apartment when I suddenly became interested in that moment when the cat posed while I was using my camera. I also captured other images, like the patterns on the umbrellas, which were taken last Christmas when I was walking through the city with my wife while we appreciated the city's decorations, and I was always attentive, taking the occasional photo. Or like the portrait of my stepfather that we can see in this series, which was taken during my 34th birthday, practically a year ago now. But it's ironic that you don't have the most specific moments from my birthday. Although, well, my wife does have a few photos here and there. She has taken it upon herself to capture every moment of our lives, even having countless photos on her cell phone, to the point where she had no more storage space.
Or, as if to recall, through the photo of the sausage we see in this post, the day I had a fast-food business with a friend. It didn't go very well at first, but after a while, for reasons beyond my control, the business fell through. Well, the experience and memories of those moments always remain, and I associate them with that photograph. Just as I show the black and white mannequins, it reminds me of the route I had to take every day to a job I had last year, in a place characterized by many clothing stores. Among other things, these are small details that make me feel those moments when I was perhaps at peace or tranquility.
Ultimately, that will always be the purpose of photography: to bring back good memories of thousands of moments we've lived. In my case, they are always good, positive memories because that's the idea of stimulating our mind and soul with photographic memories. For those reasons, I sometimes try not to photograph things that have negative aspects, although sometimes I do it as a mere documentary, as I can sometimes do with street photography, where the reality before your eyes is captured. However, I don't usually encounter circumstances that are so negative or that harm the subjects in the scenes.
From the first moment I liked photography as a profession or hobby, despite not being part of it, it has always been like a great photographic strip of everything I've lived, the places I've visited, the experiences I've had, and everything I like to appreciate about this world, or at least the environment where I've lived.
All photographs are my own.
