A 6km walk through the city

This Saturday after lunch, I wanted to take a long walk through the city of Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela. Although it's not common to go to certain places I'm showing in this post, I usually take advantage of these walking tours to get a drink, and do, as they say, hiking tourism, because it's the best way to get to know a city, regardless of the destination or direction; it's simply walking until you're tired. However, on this occasion, I took a bus that dropped me off practically at the entrance to the city, and from there I began a tour of the city, covering almost 6 km until I reached my home. It took me almost two hours, taking a few breaks and taking some photos.

In part, the day was perfect for walking in the sense that it was cloudy and not as hot as usual in this city. However, the cloudy conditions in the city didn't allow for good lighting for taking photos, and especially in the more wooded areas of the area, I had to use a higher setting. The positive side is that I could walk without the harsh sun, which makes you more tired with each step you take, because that's how the sun is in this area. For these reasons, people don't walk much, at least not for short stretches.

The route I took for this occasion was a walk along the city's Guayana Avenue, one of the longest avenues in the city, including the one that runs through both Puerto Ordaz and San Félix. It passes countless places of great importance to the city, from some plazas located in traffic circles to an area I really like that's like a forest very close to the airport, a perfect balance between nature and the city itself. But you also find long plains along the avenue, so vast that several soccer stadiums could fit inside. That's partly what I like about this city, where there's still plenty of space for everything and, of course, much of its vegetation is still preserved.

Although as I walked through these endless streets, I wondered what this place must have been like more than 200 years ago, where the jungle practically dominated, or even grand views between hills and more wooded areas, these were undoubtedly places that came close to that tropical paradise, because something that greatly characterizes this province is its magnificent landscapes throughout the territory. It's not just places like Canaima or Roraima, but there are also great attractions in areas like Caicara del Orinoco, Los Pijiguaos, very close to the town of Puerto Ayacucho, as well as everything that extends through Maripa, passing through Ciudad Bolívar and therefore all of Ciudad Guayana, continuing along that entire route until you reach the Gran Sabana, where you can find an infinite number of beautiful places and sites.

However, I find myself in this city that not only offers what is commonly found in metropolitan cities, it is also a place where you can take long routes, whether walking or jogging, in contact with nature, which is very common, among many trees, pines and the presence of that eternal green color in nature, apart from that you can be lucky enough to find some interesting species of animals or birds, as well as, although it is not common, some snakes, although it has never happened to me, I have heard of having had that experience.

All photographs are my own.
