Beyond The Looking Glass is the second book in the Unseen series, a story that came to me from the other side. A story where I thought I was just the narrator until I heard the Words of the Unseen.

This second story goes beyond time and place and mixes the long ago with the here and now. Because history keeps repeating, until we learn and do something about it.

Beyond The Looking Glass - Words of the Unseen - Chapter 98

Dear Reader, the concept that life should be fun is a widely spread misconception.

Moments of fun should be the little crunchy things making that average chocolate bar taste great.*

Fun is the icing on top of that half-baked cake called life, itยดs that what stops us from just giving up on the whole damn thing.

Life is not meant to be fun. Remember the story of that wooden boy called Pinocchio? That scary part where all the kids turned into donkeys because they lived only for fun?

That part of the story somehow seems to be true, and of course, there are many donkeys in this world as well. But at some point, they realize that life is not always a party, and that to enjoy the party, you have to eat the Brussels sprouts as well.

Going back to the Netherlands didn't feel like an option, at least not one that would make me happy, but seeing her like this wasnยดt easy either.

It had been dormant for a year, but now it was back, and something told me that it might never really go away.

I looked at the two cans again, and heard Yallenix laugh. Something I'd heard more often the last few days. It made me feel good, she deserved it.

She deserved friends and fun, and sometimes it felt like living with me had taken away all those things a girl her age does.

Although virtual, at least she had her friends now.

She increasingly withdrew from me to be with them in the evenings. I was happy that she found them and enjoyed hearing her laugh.

I enter the bedroom, by the tense look on her face, I already know. Something is up. She is very bad at hiding these kinds of things.

"What is wrong?" I ask while I undress.

"You know my gaming friends are going to rent a house together soon, right?" She starts carefully.

I nod. "Well, they know about my homesickness and have asked if I wouldn't like to come and live there for a few months. But of course I have to discuss something like that with you first."

Once again, the universe creates a path in a seemingly impossible situation.

A year ago, she had the same thing and no place to go, and now? Now, out of nowhere, there was a place, a chance to taste what she thought she missed so much.

"That would be so cool for you if that was really possible, you finally have that place. Last time we didn't know how, but this could be the solution. But eeh what's the plan exactly?"

I don't really know how to read her face; the tension is gone, but she is hanging between a smile and a tear. "We don't know exactly yet either, but wouldn't you really mind?"

That was a very difficult one, of course, I would mind. She was my sweetheart and my buddy, but at the same time, I knew that homesickness was a killer.

Somehow, this seemed like a great plan, to just be able to taste a few months in the Netherlands, to see if it would take away the longing. Or if it really would be what she needs.

"Well, I'm not going to like it, but your homesickness makes going on like this impossible. I hate to see you this sad, and I think this is actually a very good solution. It will allow you the time and space to see if going back would really take away that lost in Spain feeling and your tears."

A smile appeared on her face, "Yes, I think so too."

####Another Three Months Later

When I pull up the duvet after getting into this new bed in my home office, I wonder if I was right to say that a trip to the Netherlands was a good idea.

What if I had known then what I know now?

What if I had known then that something would come between us, that it would grow a bit, and that now, 3 months later, she likes someone else?

I shake my head, deep down I know it wouldn't have mattered.

Things go the way they should, you can't stop them. Maybe slow down, but nothing stops a change in the flow of the river of life.

She is ready for it, that is what I heard.
She can do it alone now, and this is her way.
It will not be easy, but this is the road she needs to follow. Here is where our journey together ends.

I heard the voices in my head more and more clearly, and trusted them more and more. Also in this. Life will guide you, it will manipulate you if you donยดt listen.

It has meant ways to make you go down the path, and encounter your lessons. Still, it feels a bit unnatural to sleep alone in this room with her on the other side of the wall.
