Beyond Doubt (2).jpg

Welcome to my seemingly endless journey.
A trip that will take you to places I might have visited many moons ago.
It´s a tale that came back to me when I meditated on one of my past lives. A life I told you about in my unbelievable true story.

As promised in that story I will now share this story with you.

Chapter 46

Dear Reader, Life is a game and this world is a chessboard.

It´s a game full of difficult choices and exhausting decisions.

It is up to you to play the game and accept the rules or not.

Will you adapt your game to the players around you, or will you choose to play your own game?

The choice is yours to determine which game variant works best to delay the inevitable checkmate as long as possible.

“Gentlemen, I have a plan, but first I want to know your vision. How far are you willing to go to free this lady?”

My eyes are serious; “If we will go with what I suggest, Cabilah will be one of us. At least for the time being, until she finds a safe place to start her life.”

“My plan is simple,” I continue. “At the crack of dawn, we will treat this gentleman to another visit. Whatever happens, follow my story and radiate as much confidence as possible. He is a hunter, and if he smells fear, he will be inclined to wring our necks. We have to make him feel that we are not afraid of anyone. Something he can see from the fact that we have our 'secret' weapon,” I look at Retsj, laughing.

After I explained the plan, they all agreed. If there was a chance to solve this unequal equation, this was the strongest move.

Cabilah crept back, and we also tried to make use of the hours we had left. It would be morning soon, then we would know whether we would succeed or have to come up with a plan B on the spot as we only had one plan so far.

As soon as we were awakened by the morning sun, we walked to the door and quietly knocked. We lined up side by side with Retsj in the middle. A sleepy apparition opened the door, it was Cabilah.

“Young lady, how would you like to accompany us, my companion here” and I nodded to Numico “is so charmed by your voice that he forced us to return to ask you to accompany us.”

“My lord, what a request so early in the morning. Your previous visit has kept me busy all night, and I would be honored to travel with you and your companions. Unfortunately, there is an obstacle, my uncle.” As she said this, a very sleepy man appeared at the door and pushed Cabilah aside.

“You again. What is this supposed to mean?” He tried to sound confident. But as everyone knows, people are not always at their most convincing in their sleeping clothes. This man experienced this firsthand when three strangers stared at him a bit sheepishly.

“Good morning I assume, sir. My companion here has kept us awake all night chattering about your daughter's voice.”

"My cousin." The man snapped at him.

“Even better, it is sometimes difficult for fathers and daughters to divorce, but in this case, it would probably not be difficult for you if this lady took this journey with us. As I assume she is old enough to make her own choices and I believe she was just about to agree to our request, weren´t you?” With one foot on the threshold, I look around the corner of the door where Cabilah had been pushed.

“Uncle, I would like to see more of the world, and these gentlemen look reliable. In addition, I believe that they are perfectly capable of protecting me,” she said while looking at Retsj.

“Of course ma'am, I will break necks for you and remove tongues if they offend you.” The giant roared.

The man in his nightgown was completely overwhelmed by this situation. His eyes swept over the three men in front of him and then back to Cabilah, who shrugged her shoulders in apparent innocence.

We can't give him time to reason, I thought to myself. “Young lady, I believe you can safely pack your things. We will wait for you here.”

The uncle, now coming to his senses, began to stammer as Cabilah walked to a corner of the room, grabbed a few clothes, and put them in a bag as she walked back to the door.

“This.. This just isn't possible.” The man's voice trembled, his eyes darting back and forth between the men in front of him and the lady behind him. Again and again, his eyes rest on Retsj's enormous arms and chest.

So far everything has gone according to plan. “Wait a minute, it sounded, the voice was more confident now. You don't think you can just take this woman with you wherever your damn journey takes you. I forbid it!” He tried to slam the door, but my foot prevented that.

“Lord, I understand that it is difficult for you to let such a beautiful young woman make her own decisions, but there is a time to come and a time to go. It seems clear to me what time it is now.” The man's eyes look desperate as Cabilah stands behind him, ready to leave the cabin for good. Our eyes quickly meet and she almost smiles.

“You know, you must have had to incur a lot of expense to feed and clothe this young woman. We are, of course, not afraid to offer you compensation for this.”

Smiling broadly, I take a handful of gold ducats from my pocket and offer the man my well-filled hand. The man's eyes fixated on the gold.
