Ringtone? What Ringtone? || A Story Of My Digital Silence
There are two kinds of people in this world, those whose ringtone is personal to them, and those who don’t even remember the last time their phone actually rang. I belong to the latter because calls? Not my thing.

To be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever gone out of my way to set a specific ringtone. Why would I, when my phone rarely rings? It’s not even an exaggeration, if someone manages to get through to me, they must be blessed because my phone is either on DND or at the very least, on silent mode with nothing but a subtle vibration to let me know that maybe, just maybe, I should pay attention.
I genuinely think phone calls are an interruption. A bold, rude, uninvited intrusion into my carefully structured day. If you want to reach me, text me. Leave a voice note. Send an email. Heck, send a carrier pigeon if you must, but a phone call? The chances of me picking up are extremely slim. I know this is supposed to be a thing, but I get anxious when my phone rings, can't even explain it.
However, I know people who take their ringtone selection seriously. They’ll pick their current favorite song, some vintage or even something bizarre like a baby laughing (yes, I’ve actually heard that one in public). Some change their ringtones as often as they change their moods, new song obsession equals new ringtone. Bad breakup? lol, their ringtone automatically becomes one of Adele's songs.
But me? My relationship with ringtones is practically nonexistent. If my phone rings, it’s either an emergency, a scam call, or some soul who thought dialing my number was a good idea. And that’s assuming the caller even gets lucky and my phone isn’t on DND.

Now, before you ask, no, I do not hate people (well, most people). I just think phone calls are the most intrusive form of communication. Imagine sitting, minding your business or even sleeping, and then suddenly, someone’s voice hijacks your peace, demanding attention immediately. Text me first, babes, let’s not do this ambush thing.
Now, when my phone actually rings, what do I hear? The sophisticated iPhone ringtone. It’s the kind of ringtone that doesn’t scream "Look at me!" but instead gives "I’m busy and successful, but I might just pick up your call." I may not enjoy calls, but I’ll admit that the iPhone default ringtone does makes it easier to wanna hear your phone ring out loud.

Picture this: someone forgets to put their phone on silent during a serious event, and suddenly a trap song starts blasting. A professional business meeting is interrupted by a K-drama OST (iconic, but still awkward). Or shall we talk about the inconvenience when your ringtone is a song from your fav, for instance, say Davido, what happens when it rings amidst Wizkid fans? Instant attack (word battle, of course). I can confidently say I’ve never been in any of those situations, simply because my phone refuses to partake in such chaos.
if for some reasons unknown to me or any mankind, I had to choose a ringtone, I’d probably go for something minimalist. Something with soft chimes or an elegant instrumental tune, maybe an instrumental of a classical french song, or an opera maybe. Basically, something that feels luxurious and unobtrusive. But then I'd have to consider the actual purpose of a ringtone which is to RING.
Oh well, for now, I’m sticking with what I know and find most convenient: silent mode, vibration, and the occasional classy iPhone ringtone when I feel like giving humans the chance to hear my voice.
So, apparently, I do not have a ringtone story. But do I have a phone that stays quiet, respects my peace, and only alerts me when absolutely necessary? And yes, that's my kind of digital lifestyle.

I do like your taste. I can see it suits your personality. It would however cause troubles for me. I can't go silent, i just stick with default.
I find it very interesting that you could perceive my personality through my write-up, that's rather brilliant.
I can imagine that, lol. Fortunately, my friends and close associates know to text me rather than call. And for strangers, I have a small android phone for my call line, although it rarely rings.
Thank you for sharing your thought, do have a wonderful day!
Hmmmm!
Okay you won.
I wanted to make a sermon to convince about phone calls but you're deep into this lifestyle already. Lol
Way too deep. 😅😂

I like the fact that you said you don’t hate people. That was a good one there😂
I agree with you and feel exactly the same about phone calls. I can’t imagine myself with my busy schedule getting a call from someone who has nothing important to say… that would be so annoying!
