Born To Be An Outdoor Girlie, Forced To Be An Indoor Princess
For as long as I can remember, I have always been a fun, outspoken, and outgoing person. I love dressing up, socializing, and meeting new people both online and offline. Even when I’m at home, I love having people around although, I still value some alone time. However, the reality is, I was born to be an outdoor person but forced to be an indoor princess.
To understand my story, we’ll have to start from the very beginning....

When I was in primary school and it was time for the end-of-the-year party, nobody did it like me. 😂 My level of excitement was out of this world. I was such a bold and creative kid, not to mention I would memorize all the songs and lines within 24 hours. So my teachers would make me lead all the activities for the day from the cultural dances for Yoruba, Igbo, and even Hausa to the dramas, choreography, and so on. My mum would scold me back then because, day and night, I was always practicing the dances, songs, and drama. But when the D-day came, she would be in the front row beaming with pride, telling the other mothers, “That’s my daughter.” Lol, mothers!
This forwardness followed me to secondary school as I found myself being the head girl, representing the school in debates, seminars, and all that, which naturally meant I was always outside, even on weekends. As proud as my mum felt, she would usually lament about the fact that the school was not letting me enjoy my childhood. And as much as I’d try to convince her that it didn’t matter to me because I loved what I was doing, the truth is, it did affect me in some ways.
For instance, unlike the rest of my age mates or even my younger sister, who had their girl squads, I couldn’t form one because I’d rather discuss figures of speech than the new boy in class with dimples.
Fortunately, I was able to correct that when I got to university. I made friends. But because I attended a medical school, we seldom had time for parties, maybe two in three months. But I tell you, those parties were amazing! Imagine students who had been cooped up all week, reading books and memorizing locations of the major arteries or chemical structures for the synthesis of acetylcholine, and suddenly, you’re throwing them a party? Don’t let anyone lie to you, medical students know how to partyyyy!

But that is as far as my outdoor story goes.
As much as I love being outdoors, my present situation and location do not allow me to throw caution to the wind, travel anytime, or go to parties at night. I have been forced to become Rapunzel here in Jos. Perhaps it’s because I don’t have many friends here, being new to the location, or perhaps because I don’t fully trust the security of the state.
Anyway, all that doesn’t matter. It’s been one full year of getting over-familiar with my room. As soon as I’m done with my business here, I’m heading back home to where the fun and freedom is.
Once I get back home, I’ll attend parties again, start going on solo dates, and explore everywhere.

So you see, as much as I am comfortable being indoors, I crave being outdoors a lot. Attending concerts, seminars, and Friday night parties, going on solo dates, girl’s dates, and fashion shows and after all that, still being able to have a ME day at least twice a week, where I don’t go out, I’m just indoors cuddling my soft teddy bear, either catching up on the latest episode of Real Housewives or reading novels on my phone.

Right now, I have no choice but to embrace the indoor lifestyle, but naturally and deep down, I am outdoor person, one hundred percent!
Thank you for reading! 🧸🧡

Your story is so relatable! It’s funny how life sometimes forces us into a role that’s the complete opposite of who we are at heart. It must be tough to go from leading performances and debates to spending so much time indoors. But the way you describe your love for the outdoors, parties, and solo dates makes it clear that you’ll thrive again once you’re back home. Until then, at least you have your cozy indoor moments with reality shows and books. Hope you get back to your adventurous life soon!
