The king and the city(fiction)

In the once-thriving city of Illyria, a mysterious ill began to spread, molding a shadow over its people. The once-vibrant streets, occupied with laugh and prosperity, became spookily quiet. Crops withered, rivers ran dry, and a strange sickness took hold, leaving citizens weak and despairing. The root of this curse repose on not in nature, but in the heart of their ruler, world-beater Midas.

Driven by greed and pride, the king had disobeyed the ancient laws of the land. He desecrated the worthy Leslie Richard Groves and plundered the treasures meant for the gods, believing his power was supra the divine. In doing so, he enraged the booze who had yearn protected Illyria. Their ire manifested as a plague, a tactual monitor of the king’s hubris.

The city's wise men pleaded with the king to repent, to offer restoration and seek forgiveness, but his arrogance unsighted him. As the ailment worsened, the people grew restless, their faith in their queen waning. It became clear that only through and through the king's expiation could the city be healed. Yet, whether the king would humble himself remained a wonder that weighed heavily on the souls of Illyria’s suffering citizens.
