"Takaw Tingin": My Sister's Craving Ended with Me Finishing the Leftovers πŸ€·β€β™€

Hello my dear Hive friends! πŸ’– Wishing you all well and good health πŸ™

Have you ever filled your plate with delicious-looking food but cannot finish it all? πŸ‘€

β€œTakaw tingin” is a Filipino idiom that exactly describes it. Its literal definition means β€œgreedy look.” But it actually refers to a person who’s tempted by the sight of food, because of its beauty or novelty, but in the end, it turns out that they don’t like it or can’t finish it. It can also be extended to other situations like impulsively buying things because they look appealing, even if you don’t need or use them.

1.jpg

In our family, we often describe my sister this way. She is the kind of person who always wants to try new food. The problem is, she is always β€œexcited” and immediately thinks a food is β€œdelicious” even before she has tasted it. The ending? Usually, she doesn’t finish it because either it doesn’t suit her taste or can’t finish it at all πŸ€·β€β™€

2. Sis.jpg

One day, it was her day off, and after we got a pedicure, she invited me to have a dinner at Greenwich, which is nearby. She said it was her treat, so who could say no? πŸ’– The truth is, she just wanted to try something new on their menu πŸ€¦β€β™€

3.1.jpg

Since it was dinner time, there were already a lot of people. We ordered our favorite Roast Beef Pizza Rice Bakes with fried chicken. It was definitely delicious and I knew she would finish it because that's what we always order.

4.jpg

But of course, she added Creamy Spinach Lasagnaβ€”that's it, the new one on the menu LOL. She didn't worry even if she couldn't finish it because she was with me.

5. Creamy Spinach Lasagna.jpg

We waited for a long time to order. While waiting, I took pictures around. One of the pictures I took was the window where the crew was making pizza. Too bad the window was partially closed, so I couldn't really see how they were tossing and spinning the dough, just like how basketball players hand spins the ball haha πŸ˜…

6.jpg

I also noticed that the cashier was the same one we often see when we dine here. She seemed to have been working here for a long time and I guess we became very familiar to her because we were their regular customers! LOL 🀣

8.jpg

We waited for almost an hour because of the crowd. When our orders arrived, of course, we were excited to eat our favorite Pizza Rice Bakes and we finished it all πŸ‘Œ

10.jpg

And when my sister tasted the Lasagna she ordered, she only had two mouthfuls of it. Then, she simply whispered, β€œLet’s split it.” She just ate the pizza πŸ€¦β€β™€

11.jpg

That’s it! That means she didn’t like the taste, haha 🀣 In the end, I finished her Lasagna. To be honest, I didn’t like it either πŸ˜ͺ It tasted like leaves, and the cheese seemed tasteless. But I just finished it because it would be a waste if there were any leftovers. She said, β€œnever again” ...as if she ate it at all πŸ˜’ And here I am looking at the frozen cakes...we should've tried that one instead of the lasagna LOL 🀣

12.jpg

That’s always the ending whenever she doesn't like her order: she’ll give the leftovers to me, or to our cousin. Sometimes, we’ll just see some food she’s piling up in the fridge and always promise to finish it when our mom scolds her.

13.jpg

That’s the story of my sister and the Filipino expression β€œtakaw tingin.” Do you know anyone like that? Let me know in the comments! Just kidding 😏

Sometimes I also do like that. Trying a new dish or drink. 😁

Everything looks so tempting, I totally agree! πŸ˜… That excitement when trying a new restaurant or dish is the biggest cause of takaw tingin πŸ˜…

Hello, happy day.
I'm so sorry about what happened to your sister with the lasagna.
I usually don't eat in restaurants of that type, I don't like fast food places, I prefer traditional cuisine, I think they make much better food than fast food and also the service is much better.

Thanks for the sympathy about the lasagna, but it's ok my friend, she's used to it πŸ˜…
I totally agree that restaurants serving traditional cuisine offer way better food πŸ™Œ
However, when my sister goes to restaurants, she's more tempted to try everything even if she can't handle πŸ˜‚

I think everyone do that "takaw tingin" Especially their new resto and people say its really good. But in the end you cannot finish it. We all have different taste and when order already, u cannot finished it. It's ok just bring home the food. πŸ€—

That's so true sis πŸ’– The hype really makes us forget our limits πŸ˜… That time, she didn't want to get scolded and begged me to finish the food, that's why we didn't take home her leftovers πŸ˜‚

I laughed so hard at the story, hahaha... It makes sense, after all the food they ate, that she couldn't finish it, hahaha...
I'm glad you had fun like this!
Thank you for always giving us your light!

My sister's always like that πŸ˜‚ She always orders food without ever thinking if she could handle it πŸ˜… Her eyes already got full even if she hasn't tasted it πŸ˜… So glad the story also gave you a good laugh πŸ˜‚ Thank you for your incredibly kind words πŸ’• Receiving your light brightens our day too! πŸ™Œ

You nailed it sis! Expectations vs. reality πŸ˜‚ That moment when the expectation doesn't quite meet the taste πŸ˜… It's such an honor to be called a food hero for saving the rest haha! πŸ˜‚
