Scanning for Savings: Finding Deals and Price Verifiers at the Supermarket

I accompanied my sister to buy groceries at Robinsons Supermarket which is inside the mall near our home. I was just in high school when this mall and grocery store already existed. I remember back then, there were always many people queuing here because this was the only grocery store closest to us before. Now, grocery stores where you can shop for groceries are almost everywhere. Fortunately, its location is on the main road, which is why it continues to operate up to this day and there are still customers.

The mall was about to close when we went grocery shopping. The mall closes at 8:30 PM, but the grocery store closes a little late, around 9:00 PM. Some people who had just come from work would go grocery shopping before going home. The tricycle terminal is also just outside the mall, so it is convenient when you come from grocery shopping here, you can get a ride home. There are also jeepneys passing by outside the mall.

Many varieties can be purchased here. There are lots of canned goods, noodles, condiments, beverages, bath needs and home cleaning supplies. There are also dairy products, and the section next to it on the right is fruits and vegetables.

Sometimes, they also have a sale here, or Buy 1 Take 1 Promo. You're lucky if you catch this kind of promo. They just suddenly appear on the most unexpected day.

They also never run out of meat and frozen goods that they sell, which are located at the back. Their cold storage is right there at the back.

What I'm glad about is that there are price verifiers on the side. Sometimes, the tag where the item is placed doesn't match, sometimes it's blank. Maybe, when the person stocking the supplies is tired, they also make mistakes when placing them, or when the product is new, they forget to put a tag on it. That's why their price verifiers are a big help. With this, you can find out the price of the item. You just hold the item's bar code up to the scanner below, and the price of the item will appear.

The prices of goods continue to rise these days. Price verifiers are a great help so you aren't surprised by the price of an item when you get to the counter. You have time to think about whether an item is worth buying or not in case you can't see its price tag at the stall.

When we arrived at the counter, there was only a small queue. The Winery section is near the counter where you can choose alcoholic beverages and wines. The expensive drinks are locked so that shoplifters won't steal them.

We only bought a few things that day. Soaps, tissues, snacks, and frozen goods that my sister would cook for breakfast before going to work. But these two plastic bags have already cost over 1,500 PHP (~25 USD). Before, for 1,000 PHP (~17 USD), you could take home more grocery bags. Money has really lost its value these days 😅
