My Mom’s Favorite Dessert: Creamy Halo-Halo from Kuya J’s Restaurant | Phone Photography #79

Hello my dear Hive friends! πŸ’– I wish you all well and hope you're having a wonderful day πŸ™

Filipino menu cannot go without a Halo-Halo. It’s a classic Filipino dessert made with shaved ice and milk, layered with various sweets like sweetened beans, fruits, red and green jellies, coconut strips, and is often topped with a scoop of ice cream and a slice of leche flan.

My mom, sister, cousin, and I went to Kuya J restaurant to have lunch. Kuya J is a restaurant owned by a Filipino celebrity named Jericho Rosales, and it offers Filipino dishes. We went there on a Sunday after church and it was already past lunch time. Since the seats inside were all occupied, newcomers had to wait outside until it becomes available. There were many people queuing outside to wait for their turn. My mom really wanted to try their halo-halo so we patiently waited, and it took us 2 hours before we were able to dine.

We were really hungry but that's a great thing because we were able to enjoy the food. We ordered grilled pork belly, baked scallops, sisig, and fried rice. They're all tasty.

The halo-halo was served last since it's a dessert. We saw from the other table that the serving was so big, so we only ordered two for sharing. Kuya J had 2 varieties of halo-halo: one is the ube flavor (purple), and the other one is milk flavor (white). I don’t usually eat halo-halo, but I can say the taste is really good and refreshing. It’s smooth, creamy and milky. The shaved ice really tastes flavorful, and didn’t taste like just crushed ice. Some halo-halo tastes bland especially when the ice melt away, but this one was consistent until the end. It’s really worth it because my mom liked it very much. She said that this was the best halo-halo she ever had πŸ’–

Hello, very nice day.
I'm glad Hays was able to spend time with your family and that they took his mom to the restaurant.
It's good to share with the people you love.

Ube or purple yam is a unique flavor...kind of like a mix of nutty vanilla and a slightly earthy creamy sweetness πŸ’– It's not a strong taste, but it's very rich and smooth 😊 It definitely makes the Halo-Halo extra special πŸ’• Glad you liked it sis πŸ’– Take care always πŸ€—πŸŒ·
