A Peaceful Pause: Our Meaningful Visit to Good Shepherd Convent – Baguio Bliss (Part 4)

Hello everyone! πŸ’– It's me again @wanderelle! ☺️ I hope you enjoyed hearing about our experience with breathtaking views and wearing traditional Ifugao attire at Mines View Park in Part 3 of our Baguio trip. Well, our adventure didn't stop there. Right after diving in those mountain sights and fun cultural moments, we took a short walk to our next important stop: Good Shepherd Convent.

The walk from Mines View Park to Good Shepherd Convent was a quick one, though it was a bit uphill. It’s near from the Mines View Park and it only took us 5 minutes to get there. But let me tell you, it was totally worth the little climb! As we arrived, we noticed quite a bit of traffic near the entrance gate, with many cars stuck. Good thing we decided to commute and walk around Baguio instead of bringing a private car. It was a smart choice, and walking is always good for the health, right? ☺️

As soon as we got there, the whole place just felt so welcoming and peaceful, exactly what you'd expect from a convent. The atmosphere was calm, and it felt like a wonderful escape. Their garden is incredibly well-maintained, and the flowers are beautifully arranged, adding so much color and life to the area. We even saw a lovely plant arrangement spelling out "God Bless," surrounded by bright flowers, which made for a really heartwarming photo spot.

Now, when you talk about Baguio souvenirs, Good Shepherd Convent is probably one of the place that comes to mind! It's super famous for its delicious β€œpasalubong” (souvenir), especially their legendary Ube (Purple Yam) Jam. Besides the Ube Jam, they're also popular for other treats like Peanut Brittle, Strawberry Jam, and other pastries. While we were hoping to buy some goodies to enjoy right there, we saw a very long line of people queuing up at the main souvenir shop. Since we had already experienced the taste of their Ube Jam before, and it's not yet the end of our trip for buying souvenirs, we decided not to join the long queue this time.

Even though we didn't buy anything, our visit to Good Shepherd was still very special. We just enjoyed the peacefulness of the place. It was a nice contrast to the busy shop area. Good thing the garden and other parts of the convent grounds weren't very crowded, so we could just look around, enjoy the beautiful arrangements, and take photos of the scenery and flowers without feeling rushed. It really allowed us to soak in the calm atmosphere and rested our tired feet from walking in our previous destinations.

What makes Good Shepherd truly special and popular isn't just the delicious treats; it's also about their mission. The income from all their product sales goes directly to support the Sisters of the Good Shepherd's charitable works. The Mountain Maid Training Center is a key part of this. They have various programs that help send students to school and support youth in need. So, when people buy from Good Shepherd, they're not just getting a tasty souvenir; they're also contributing to a very good cause. That added meaning makes the place even more respected and cherished by visitors.

Our visit to Good Shepherd Convent was a memorable stop, not for the purchases that people made, but for the peaceful feeling it offered and the good heart behind its famous products.
