The room was dimly lit. Ariel tried to adjust his eyes to the room. Somewhere in the room, a husky voice ordered, "Take the chair." Ariel, being himself, took the order literally. He bent over to pick up the one-seater sofa. Taking a deep breath, he grabbed the edges, and tried to lift it up. The chair creaked as Ariel tried to wrestle with it. He grunted at the failure. He couldn't understand why the principal had called him to her office just to take the chair that didn't want to be taken. "Was this some kind of strength test?" he wondered, feeling that he had failed the test.

The grunt made the principal stop scribbling on her pad and look at Ariel over the brim of her eyeglasses before she fully looked up. Ariel bent before her, ready to attempt the task again. The wall clock ticked too loudly, the second hand stretching rather too slow in despair. She let out an exasperated sigh as she watched Ariel try to lift the chair again. She couldn't believe her eyes. "He can't be this dumb," she thought out loud.

Taking off her reading glasses, she addressed Ariel, more like pleaded with him, "Can you stop for a second, Ariel?" Ariel straightened to attention, regaining his breath. "Please take the seat," she said again, slowly and calmly. Ariel entered into defensive mode, "But the chair doesn't want to be taken, Ma'am." The principal slumped her shoulders in defeat before she addressed Ariel again, "I mean, please sit down."

Ariel looked at the principal, debating if she was testing him or not. "She had ordered me to take the chair, and now she wants me to sit?" He involuntarily cocked his head to the side on the thought. Her stare convinced him it was not a test. Ariel looked at the chair before he sat, cautiously, as if the chair might bite. The principal opened her mouth to speak, but Ariel interrupted “Should I take it now?”
