It's not exactly the famous ivory tower, but it is as close as I have come to see a tower. A booster we call it. It's used to boost our network, our mobile network, like a satellite. They're of different sizes, some way taller than others, but the mission is one; to better our conversation on air.

Where network coverage is low, they construct a booster, with small satellite dishes to help up the signal. I remember in the village, we had signal problems, one that would send people on top of hilly places just to make or receive calls. Other times, you'd have to raise your hand high up in the sky, just to find a signal, one bar to send a message.

Then came the savior, the very first Safaricom booster. One that helped Safaricom sim card holders make and receive calls at the convenience of their homes. Sending messages became easy, just like popping the calculator on. One booster. Our very own ivory tower. Made of steel. Very strong steel. Meant to bring people together, one bar a day. From detachment to connection, a symbol of unity and equality.
