In the dim bar, with their masks on, pretending to be human, they sat side by side and simultaneously ordered. He was going for elegance tonight. He ordered a glass of red wine: "Dry. No ice." She was feeling confident, maybe a little playful. She asked for a tequila shot with lime.

The bartender raised a brow as he poured the red wine for the vampire and the tequila shot for the werewolf. Two predators, same bar. One was pretending to savor. One pretended to forget.

She looked naive. He loved naive; easy prey. He stepped into the night and waited around the corner in the alley. A few minutes passed. She came out of the bar, careful, not to throw shade. Confident, but measured - like someone pretending to wander.

Alone. She's alone. This will be easy, he thought. She turned at the corner. So did he. They stopped. No flich. No gasp. No heartbeat skipped. No breath hitched.

Fangs slid forward in his mouth. Her jaw tightened, eyes gleaming gold beneath the streetlight.

A slow smile curled on both faces. Then, in sync, as if spoken from the same instict;

"I'm not prey!"
