If Only Accidents Knocked

My friend suffered a burn, one that will leave him scarred for life. It's been a week since we talked, and when he video-called me yesterday, I was so excited. I was at work and I picked up the phone ready to tease him. My tease, a peek-a-boo, was cut short by the man on the other end. At first, I thought it was a prank, maybe a filter, maybe him pulling my leg. But no, there was my friend covered with actual burns, on his face and shoulder. I knew he could read my expression better than I could, so he smiled to ease me.

Everything happens for a reason, but I try to find the reason to his accident and none fits. I don't mean to judge the order of life, it is how it is. Life is good, it's a blessing, it's sweet, but it's very unpredictable. In the blink of an eye, life changes drastically fast, positively and/or negatively. If my friend had been told he'd say goodbye to his handsome face, he'd probably would have laughed it off, I would have laughed it off. I still hope it's a dream. I could feel the weight of his WhatsApp status where he posted goodbye to his old looks.

But accidents, why? Why are you so bent to knock us off our feet when we are not ready. We are trying to make life better. If only you could knock to alert us. To minimize the impact you cause us. Oh God, why do I always forget the most important wealth of all time? Life itself, just the ability to breathe the fresh air around me. And health, the most underrated wealth until the body gets out of our control. I guess I now understand, the human body is nothing but a flower.

Thank you for reading❤️. Image is mine.
