The master who asked: what do you think? | A mestra que perguntava: o q vc acha? [EN/PT]

When I started my career in advertising, still as an intern, I was asked to take the final artwork for a graphic design book to its art director for review and approval. She was a well-known professional who worked at a famous agency, unaware that I would be working with her at that same company, more than 5 years later.

I remember feeling dazzled, in a dreamlike environment, everything white, bright and organized, with transparent walls made of glass blocks. Grateful to meet someone so important to the history of Brazilian advertising, despite being born in Germany. And what surprised me most was that she would analyze the artwork and, from time to time, stop, think, comment on something and ask me: what do you think?

It surprised me because I felt like just a beginner, a lowly intern, unworthy of having any opinion in front of a professional with that talent and experience. She certainly didn't remember me when she saw my portfolio and hired me some time later. But the questioning that made me think and always seek to analyze the work around me, as well as listen to and compare it with the opinions of other colleagues, was a lesson I try to practice to this day.

This beginning was when I was working at the agency I mentioned here in the arts Paste-up table with parallel ruler and The master's crooked finger (and cat's eye), also part of the Challenge: Drawing (almost) every day on iPad. Later I would meet and become an assistant to the master at the agency I mentioned in the post The DPZ Brick, where I saw and copied the technique Drawing with a bottle of India ink and also The phrase I heard from the president of DDB. Quando comecei minha carreira na publicidade, ainda estagiário, pediram pra eu levar as artes finais de um livro gráfico para a diretora de arte conferir e aprovar. Era uma profissional bastante conhecida, que trabalhava em uma agência famosa, sem saber que eu iria trabalhar com ela naquela empresa, só que mais de 5 anos depois.

Lembro que me sentia deslumbrado, em um ambiente dos sonhos, tudo branco, claro e organizado, com paredes transparentes feitas de blocos de vidro. Grato por conhecer alguém tão importante para a história da propaganda brasileira, mesmo tendo nascido na Alemanha. E o que mais me espantou foi que ela ia analisando as artes e, de tempos em tempos, parava, pensava, comentava alguma coisa e me perguntava: o que vc acha?

Me espantou pq me sentia apenas um iniciante, um reles estagiário, indigno de ter alguma opinião diante de uma profissional com aquele talento e experiência. Com certeza ela não lembrava de mim quando viu meu portfólio e me contratou tempos depois. Mas o questionamento que me fez pensar e buscar sempre uma análise dos trabalhos em minha volta, além de ouvir e comparar com a opinião de outros colegas, foi uma lição que tento praticar até hoje.

Este início, foi quando trabalhava na agência que comentei aqui nas artes Mesa do paste-up com régua paralela e O dedo torto (e olho de gato) do mestre, também parte do Desafio: Desenhando (quase) todo dia no iPad. Depois eu iria reencontrar e ser assistente da mestra na agência que mencionei no post O tijolo DPZ, onde vi e copiei a técnica Desenhando com frasco de tinta nanquim e tb aconteceu A frase que ouvi do presidente da DDB. O que vc acha?
