Old dream with giant moth | Sonho antigo com mariposa gigante [EN/PT]

As I've shared here before, this is another drawing inspired by dream visions. The difference is that the image has been etched in my memory for a long time, from a dream I had when I was still a child and lived upstairs from the family bakery.

I've already talked about the bakery here in the post Visual charade with drink names, which I published before this wave of deaths and poisonings from methanol-contaminated drinks here in Brazil. I still remember falling asleep to the sound of machines mixing and kneading dough and bakers working through the night.

In the dream, the inspiration for today's art from Challenge: Drawing (almost) every day on iPad, I was descending one of the staircases that led to the basement, the floor where the enormous oven, the machines (mixers, rollers, and kneaders), dough-resting containers, baking trays, and baskets were located. Before I reached the spot, I saw through the door a gigantic moth, impressive and terrifying, but practically static next to one of the sides of the oven.

As you can see, I woke up startled and never forgot it. And different from the other previous posts - Dream about a big guy with wrinkled hands, Being scolded by a girl in the dream and Drawing the bus that passed by in a dream - all dreamed this year, the dream about this giant moth, although fresh in my memory, occurred in the last century.

One explanation may be the Okinawan belief (my grandparents immigrated from Okinawa) that butterflies and moths can represent spirits visiting us. When I was little, I would occasionally hear some relative commenting on something supernatural when these insects appeared. I don't remember if it fits the time, but another explanation may have been the Godzilla vs. Mothra movie that my grandmother must have taken me to see at the old Cine Niterói in the Liberdade neighborhood (São Paulo's famous Asiantown).

Como já compartilhei aqui anteriormente, este é mais um desenho inspirado em visões de sonho. A diferença é que a imagem está fixada em minha memória há muito tempo, de um sonho que tive quando ainda era criança e morava no andar de cima onde funcionava a padaria da família.

Sobre os tempos da padaria, contei aqui no post Charada visual com nomes de bebidas, que publiquei antes desta onda de mortes e intoxicações por bebidas contaminadas com metanol. Ainda lembro de dormir no embalo do som das máquinas misturando e amassando massa e padeiros trabalhando atravessando a madrugada.

No sonho, inspiração pra arte de hoje do Desafio: Desenhando (quase) todo dia no iPad, estava descendo uma das escadarias que dava acesso ao subsolo, andar onde ficavam o forno enorme, as máquinas (misturadoras, rolos e amassadeiras), recipientes para descanso da massa, tabuleiros e balaios. Antes de chegar ao local vi através da porta uma gigantesca mariposa, impressionante e terrível, mas praticamente estática ao lado de uma das laterais do forno.

Como vêem, acordei assustado e nunca mais esqueci. E diferente dos outros relatos - Sonho com grandão de mão rugosa, Levando bronca de uma menina no sonho e Desenhando o ônibus que passou em um sonho - todos deste ano, o sonho com esta mariposa gigante, apesar de fresca na memória, aconteceu no século passado.

Uma explicação pode ser a crença dos okinawanos (meus avós imigraram de Okinawa) de que borboletas e mariposas podem representar espíritos nos visitando. Quando pequeno, vez por outra, ouvia algum parente comentando algo sobrenatural quando estes insetos apareciam. Não lembro se encaixa no tempo, mas outra explicação pode ter sido o filme do Godzilla contra Mothra que minha avó deve ter levado para assistir no antigo Cine Niterói, no bairro da Liberdade.
