Koan: The master who carried the girl across the river | O mestre que carregou a moça no rio [EN/PT]

As you may have noticed in the previous drawings - Staircase, handrail and the religious painting and Painting of a saint with birds flying - I've always been curious about stories told in religions, and I've grown to like them even more after discovering that it's not necessarily required to believe in them.

Today's artwork for the Challenge: Drawing (almost) every day on iPad was inspired by a koan, stories linked to Zen Buddhism, generally involving some wisdom. Here it is:

Once upon a time, a master, accompanied by his disciple, was on a pilgrimage, walking along a road where at a certain point it was necessary to cross a river by foot. Upon arriving, they found a very attractive young woman on the bank, hesitant to get her feet wet and uncertain about the depth and dangers of the crossing.

The master saw this and offered her a ride, telling the woman to climb onto his back so he could cross and leave her on the other side. The girl accepted, rolled up her kimono, adjusted her things, and let the master hold her legs, holding on tightly so she wouldn't fall and be carried, swaying all over but safely.

The disciple watched incredulously, seeing his master grabbing and squeezing the woman's thighs, her legs spread, rubbing against his neck and shoulders, while he still feigned nonchalance and chatted cheerfully as he crossed the river. Even more so with the water splashing and soaking everyone, sticking the fabric to their bodies.

After passing the obstacle, the master left the girl on the bank, and she continued on her way. After hours of walking, the disciple, doubtful and tormented, decided to confront and ask the master:
— Master, don't you teach that we should be detached from carnal desires and not give in to temptations? Why did you decide to offer a ride and carry that woman on your back?
Hearing this, the master replied:
— I left that woman on the bank of that river, but you've been carrying her ever since yet.

Como devem ter notado nos desenhos anteriores - Escadaria, corrimão e o quadro religioso e Pintura de santo com pássaros voando - eu sempre fui curioso por histórias contadas nas religiões e passei a gostar mais ainda depois que descobri que não necessariamente é preciso acreditar nelas.

A arte de hoje para o Desafio: Desenhando (quase) todo dia no iPad foi inspirada em um koan, histórias ligadas ao zen budismo, geralmente envolvendo alguma sabedoria. Vamos lá:

Era uma vez um mestre acompanhado por seu discípulo, em peregrinação, caminhando por uma estrada que em certo momento era necessário cruzar um rio, atravessando a pé. Chegando lá encontraram uma moça muito atraente, na margem, hesitante em molhar os pés e incerta quanto a profundidade e os perigos daquela travessia.

O mestre viu aquilo e ofereceu uma carona, dizendo para aquela mulher subir em suas costas que ele poderia atravessar e deixá-la na outra margem. A garota aceitou, arregaçou o quimono, ajeitou suas coisas e deixou o mestre pegar em suas pernas, segurando bem firme para não cair e ser carregada, balançando tudo mas com segurança.

O discípulo olhava incrédulo, vendo seu mestre agarrando e apertando as coxas da mulher, com as pernas abertas esfregando no pescoço e ombros dele, que ainda aparentava naturalidade e conversava alegre enquanto atravessava o rio. Ainda mais com a água espirrando e molhando todos, grudando o tecido no corpo.

Depois de passar pelo obstáculo o mestre deixou a moça na margem, que seguiu seu caminho. Após horas de caminhada, o discípulo em dúvida e atormentado, resolveu encarar e perguntar pro mestre:
— Mestre, o senhor não ensina que devemos ter desapego aos desejos carnais e não ceder à tentações? Por que resolveu oferecer carona e carregar aquela mulher nas costas?
Ouvindo isso o mestre respondeu:
— Eu deixei aquela mulher na beira daquele rio mas você vem carregando ela até agora.
