Giant silk floss trees at the Bandeira Bus Terminal | Paineiras gigantes do Terminal Bandeira [EN/PT]

The silk floss tree is a tree that I learned to identify by its thorny trunk and also by the enormous size that some can reach, even in the city of São Paulo, where I live. I remember that at the Bandeira Bus Terminal, near my house, there were two of them, gigantic, at the entrance to Rua Santo Antonio.

Unfortunately, the two silk floss trees fell more than 10 years ago; one of them was even featured on G1 news - Buses return to service at Bandeira Terminal after tree falls - and without them, there's a void, at least for me, because every time I pass by there I remember the branches and leaves that spread out and occupied a considerable space in the landscape.

The terminal is the same one I mentioned before in the post I picked up Moby Dick through bookcrossing or vice versa, and it's very close to Graffiti - Paulo Kobayashi Square. Perhaps this attraction to greenery is something inherited from my Grandfather, a gardener. Regarding the tree I tried to draw, I found this post in portuguese written by Juliana Gatti from the Instituto Árvores Vivas: Paineira, the wonder tree.

A paineira é uma árvore que aprendi a identificar pelo tronco com espinhos e tb pelo porte e tamanho enorme que algumas conseguem atingir, mesmo na cidade de São Paulo, onde moro. Lembro que no Terminal Bandeira, perto de casa, haviam 2 delas, gigantes, na entrada da Rua Santo Antonio.

Infelizmente as 2 paineiras caíram há mais de 10 anos, uma delas até foi notícia no G1 - Ônibus voltam a circular no Terminal Bandeira após queda de árvore - e sem elas ficou um vazio, pelo menos para mim, pois sempre que passo lá lembro dos galhos e folhas que se espalhavam e ocupavam um espaço considerável na paisagem.

O terminal é o mesmo que citei antes no post Peguei Moby Dick no bookcrossing ou vice-versa, e fica bem perto do Graffiti - Praça Paulo Kobayashi. E o assunto das plantas já explorei aqui em Vasos com garrafas pet penduradas, Banco e vaso com troncos de cimento e Existe amora em SP.
