Desired brands from the past | Marcas desejadas de antigamente [EN/PT]

Today's artwork for the "Challenge: Drawing (Almost) Every Day on iPad" is another distant memory from the past, when I was a teenager and starting to want to choose my own clothes instead of accepting my mother's taste. I must have been in high school when my classmates talked about brands like Soft Machine jeans and Tiger bags. They conveyed so much admiration and desire in such a contagious way that I ended up buying both.

The problem is that I think they weren't genuine but rather fakes. Since I didn't even know the originals, given how little time they lasted and the looks on people's faces when they saw me showing them off, I think the bag was fake. A copy of the Japanese brand Onitsuka, which I think still exists today. But for Soft Machine, I never heard of it again; I liked the design on the label on the back. I drew on the pocket, but I think that's where the belt went.

The most common brands were Bamba and All Star sneakers, Lee and Levi's jeans, keep in mind that Nike didn't exist yet. Between classes with The biology teacher who unlocked the lab, the early internship I did the draw here in Passepartout, big folder and michelin, training for the Estrela button (or table) football championship and watching cartoons on TV, there wasn't much time or motivation left to worry about new clothes, costumes, accessories, shoes and haircuts.

Furthermore, the Brazil's military dictatorship was ending and communist and socialist ideas were circulating again with less fear, influencing young people from the suburbs like me to be more rebellious and even subversive. Perhaps that's why I also remember that one of my first self-determined acquisitions was a pair of sandals with tire soles, bought at the hippies fair in Santo André.

A arte de hoje no Desafio: Desenhando (quase) todo dia no iPad é outra lembrança distante no passado, quando eu era adolescente e começava a querer escolher minhas roupas em vez de aceitar o gosto da minha mãe. Devia estar estudando no ginásio quando os colegas falavam das calças Soft Machine e da bolsa Tiger. Transmitiam tanta admiração e desejo de forma contagiante que acabei comprando ambas.

O problema é que acho que não eram legítimas mas sim falsificações. Como eu nem conhecia as originais, pelo pouco tempo que durou e a cara de quem me via desfilando, acho que a bolsa era falsificada. Uma cópia da marca japonesa Onitsuka que deve existir até agora. Já a Soft Machine nunca mais ouvi falar, gostava do desenho na etiqueta que ficava na parte de trás. Desenhei no bolso mas acho que era ali onde passava o cinto.

As marcs mais comuns eram o tênis Bamba e All Star, das calças de jeans Lee e Levi's, a Nike ainda não existia. Entre as aulas com o O professor de biologia que destrancou o laboratório, o estágio temporão que desenhei aqui em Passepartout, pasta grande e michelim, treinar pro Campeonato de futebol de botão da Estrela e assistir desenhos na TV, não sobrava muito tempo e motivação pra se preocupar com novas roupas, figurinos, acessórios, sapatos e cortes de cabelo.

Além do mais a ditadura militar estava acabando e ideias comunistas e socialistas voltavam a circular com menos medo, influenciando jovens da periferia como eu a serem mais rebeldes e até subversivos. Talvez por isso tb lembro que uma das minhas primeiras aquisições autodeterminadas foi um par de sandálias com solas de pneu, compradas na feira hippie de Santo André.
