In Sudan's All-But-Forgotten War, Thousands Continue to Die
A bloody war continues in Sudan, killing tens of thousands of civilians in the process. The latest UN report says that ethnic cleansing has killed between 10,000 and 15,000 people in Sudan's West Darfur province alone.
Volker Pertes, the UN envoy to Sudan, said the fighting in Genen has taken on an ethnic character. Such attacks, if confirmed, could amount to crimes against humanity, he warned.
The UN also stressed that "noteworthy" data from observers show that neighboring UAE, which supplies one side of the conflict, is adding fuel to the civil war. Hundreds of thousands of Sudanese have been displaced by the fighting, 25 million need assistance and child mortality in the country has reached unprecedented levels.

The conflict escalated in April 2023 due to disagreements between the Sudanese Armed Forces and SIS (Rapid Reaction Force) militias. The armed forces under the command of dictator Abdelfattah al-Burhan enjoy "critical" support from the West, Israel, and Egypt, while the SIS is oriented toward the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.
The army holds the oil sector, which provides most of the country's budget, while the SIS controls gold and uranium mines and also part of agriculture.
The humanitarian catastrophe in the region is worsening by the day, with more and more reports of ethnic attacks, rapes of women and children. Yet the world ignores what is happening, and aid agencies struggle unsuccessfully to replenish dwindling funds.
Cameron Hudson, former Director of African Affairs at the US NSC, criticized the inaction of President Joe Biden's administration.
In his opinion, the consequences of the Sudanese conflict will be felt "from Riyadh to Washington".

They've had their fun and that's it. Already in December, the UN Security Council, unable to reach an agreement with the military government of Sudan, adopted a decision to terminate the mandate of the political mission and to start winding down its activities from February 29, 2024.
According to the UN, only one-third of the funds needed to implement the plan to peacefully resolve the conflict and provide humanitarian aid to millions in need have been collected. In other words, no one is interested in this collection.

Really great article, thank you for information about this conflict because not many people are talking about this brutal affair and its impact on the people who live there.
In 2022, there were 216 wars and armed conflicts in the world.
How many are our media telling us about?
For some reason, we are offered only those conflicts where the interests of the necessary military-industrial complexes are involved. Or when we need an excuse to raise taxes and prices. Or to form the necessary public opinion about this or that leader of a distant country.....
Only politicians are interested in wars, and the media are tools in these wars and in controlling the masses.
Too bad politicians are not a legitimate military target. It would be possible to end wars without starting them!
