Hoy la mirada vuelve al litoral, porque Matanzas es una ciudad junto al mar, y muchas de sus miradas estarán inevitablemente ligadas a él. No como repetición, sino como presencia constante.

Hay un tramo del litoral matancero donde el paseo deja de ser solo paseo y se convierte en galería. A lo largo del camino, diversas esculturas han sido emplazadas frente a la bahía, dialogando con el horizonte y con quienes caminan junto a ellas.

No están ahí para imponer.
Están para acompañar.
Son figuras que parecen moverse incluso cuando permanecen quietas. El viento del mar les da sentido, la luz las transforma según la hora, y el fondo azul las convierte en siluetas que respiran con la ciudad.

El arte público tiene algo especial, no exige entrada, no impone horarios, no obliga al silencio. Está ahí, abierto, mezclado con la vida cotidiana.

Los niños pasan corriendo a su lado, alguien se detiene a observarlas, otro apenas las mira de reojo. Y sin embargo, forman parte del paisaje emocional de Matanzas.

El mar detrás no es simple escenografía. Es diálogo.
Las esculturas miran hacia él, y el mar, inmenso, parece responderles con esa paciencia antigua que solo tienen las ciudades costeras.

Con el tiempo y el ambiente marino, algunas muestran señales de desgaste. La sal, el viento y la falta de un mantenimiento constante han dejado huellas visibles.

No es una crítica severa, sino una realidad que también forma parte de la vida junto al mar. El arte expuesto al aire libre enfrenta el mismo paso del tiempo que la ciudad misma. Y quizá esas marcas, aunque duelan un poco, también cuentan una historia.

Matanzas no solo se construye con edificios y calles. También se construye con gestos culturales, con intervenciones que recuerdan que una ciudad no vive únicamente de concreto, sino también de símbolos.

En ese tramo del litoral, la ciudad se permite ser contemplada.
Y contemplarse.

The Gallery by the Sea

Hello #worldmappin community, once again I return to this community.
Today I continue with the series that is born from walking without hurry and looking with intention.

Today the view returns to the shoreline, because Matanzas is a city by the sea, and many of its glances will inevitably be linked to it. Not as repetition, but as a constant presence.

There is a stretch of Matanzas’ waterfront where the promenade stops being just a promenade and becomes a gallery. Along the path, various sculptures have been placed facing the bay, dialoguing with the horizon and with those who walk beside them.

They are not there to impose.
They are there to accompany.
They are figures that seem to move even when they remain still. The sea breeze gives them meaning, the light transforms them depending on the hour, and the blue background turns them into silhouettes that breathe with the city.

Public art has something special, it does not require admission, it does not impose schedules, it does not demand silence. It is there, open, blended with everyday life.

Children run past them, someone stops to observe them, another barely glances at them. And yet, they are part of Matanzas’ emotional landscape.

The sea behind them is not simple scenery. It is dialogue.
The sculptures look toward it, and the sea, immense, seems to answer them with that ancient patience only coastal cities possess.

With time and the marine environment, some show signs of wear. The salt, the wind, and the lack of constant maintenance have left visible marks.

It is not a harsh criticism, but a reality that is also part of life by the sea. Art exposed to the open air faces the same passage of time as the city itself. And perhaps those marks, even if they hurt a little, also tell a story.

Matanzas is not built only with buildings and streets. It is also built with cultural gestures, with interventions that remind us that a city does not live only from concrete, but also from symbols.
Along that stretch of shoreline, the city allows itself to be contemplated.
And to contemplate itself.
