X restored the "pistol" 🔫 emoji to display a real gun instead of a water pistol like Apple, Google, Microsoft and Samsung do

"schwangerer Mann" Emoji).

Was sagt ihr dazu?

English

The pistol emoji (🔫 U+1F52B) was introduced in Unicode Standard 6.0 back in 2010 to represent a pistol as an emoji.

However, Microsoft changed the emoji to a ray gun / phaser as early as 2013, but the emoji only really became woke in 2016 when Apple replaced the emoji with a water pistol for ideological reasons. The other big tech companies then followed suit.

Recently, X was the only social media to change the emoji back to a real gun, as it was originally intended.

It's actually bizarre that in a country with liberal gun laws like the US, you can't display a real pistol or revolver as an emoji.

I am against the misuse of emojis as an ideological weapon, which unfortunately has already happened with other emojis too (for example “pregnant man” emoji).

What do you think?

The pistol emoji should be used to look like it's real, stay away from pistols everyone

Im against it too. It encourages the use of guns which might invite violence or war.

I didn't even know the gun emoji was changed to water gun . . .

IMO it's very dumb that people take so much offense in emoticons, I see no problem in a real gun emoticon, even more, give me a rifle emoticon now!

They should have their reasons, maybe to minimize violence that's so rampant in that society.

Of all the images in this world, why would it be the emoji of a gun that has become this attractive. I hate guns!

Why did X restore the real gun emoji? Sometimes I don't understand what goes on in the head of people? There are a thousand and one emojis that could have been used instead of the gun.

I think it depends on the person but I do think that a lot of people can think differently. I don't really care either way though but I lean more towards giving people more options.

I just hope this will not cause more harm than the good we thought it will in the society
