U.S. sanctioned European "censorship figures" including the architect of the Digital Services Act (DSA)
Die USA haben jetzt den ehemaligen EU-Kommissar Thierry Breton, den Architekten des DSA, und weitere Personen von NGOs sanktioniert und ihnen die Einreise in die USA gesperrt, weil diese die Zensur im Internet förderten.
Unter den sanktionierten Personen sind auch CEOs von umstrittenen UK-basierten NGOs wie Digital Hate, Global Disinformation Index, und der deutschen NGO HateAid, die auch als Trusted Flagger aktiv ist.
Sehe die Sanktionen als Reaktion auf das EU-Verfahren gegen X, in dem die EU-Kommission X wegen eher banalen Dingen zu einer Zahlung von 120 Millionen Euro wegen mutmaßlicher DSA-Verstöße verurteilt hat. Als Grund wurden zum Beispiel die blauen Häkchen genannt, die man sich jetzt für eine Abo-Gebühr kaufen kann.
Denke, dass es in Wirklichkeit eher um die Durchsetzung von Zensuranfragen geht und dass die Plattformen bereits proaktiv ungewünschte Inhalte löschen müssen.
Was sagt ihr zu dieser Eskalation? Hättet ihr gedacht, dass die USA europäische Bürokraten sanktionieren wird? Wie wird die EU darauf reagieren? Denkt ihr war es klug von der EU-Kommission gegen X vorzugehen, das hauptsächlich von professionellen Content-Creators und Journalisten genutzt wird.

The US has now sanctioned former EU Commissioner Thierry Breton, the architect of the DSA, and other individuals from NGOs, barring them from entering the US for promoting internet censorship.
Among those sanctioned are CEOs of controversial UK-based NGOs such as Digital Hate, Global Disinformation Index, and the German NGO HateAid, which is also active as a Trusted Flagger.
I see the sanctions as a reaction to the EU proceedings against X, in which the EU Commission ordered X to pay €120 million for alleged DSA violations over rather trivial matters. One reason cited, for example, was the newly introduced blue check marks that can now be purchased for a subscription fee.
I think that in reality it is more about enforcing censorship requests and that the platforms already have to proactively delete unwanted content.
What do you think about this escalation? Would you have thought that the US would sanction European bureaucrats? How will the EU respond? Do you think it was wise of the EU Commission to take action against X, which is mainly used by professional content creators and journalists?
You either use a fully uncensorable platform or use one which does have rules and in this case you follow the rules per exemple twitter should allow hate speech at all and not only delete the hate speeches who aren't in the same way elon is.
Europe choose to go the filtered media way which isn't fully bad especially due to the young people on socials.
Uncensored content is good for educated and aware people, if you let everyone say anything you create a threat to democraty because a lot of idiots don't have sufficient distance from what they see and think
Habe den USA schon zugetraut Sanktionen gegen einzelne Personen zu erheben. Die EU wird wieder irgendeine sinnlose Maßnahme als gegen Reaktion zeigen wann überhaupt.. und klug finde ich das Vorgehen gegen X nicht aber vieles der EU ist nicht sehr klug 😅

Ich hoffe nur, das daraus nicht mehr, als eben benanntes Entsteht. Soll ja nicht wieder alles in Meinungskriegen enden.
Die Phase der Kommunikation im Internetz überwinden wird doch sehenden Auges überall schon ein bisschen.
Wir werden alle Bräver, und gleichzeitig, darf man sich auch mal wieder was Sagen, das nicht ganz so in den Rahmen passt.
Das fördert sich also Gut. Finde ich.

Naja banal finde ich es nicht, es gibt Kanäle die ein Blauen Hacken haben und viele glauben, da steckt wirklich derjenige dahinter. Selbst vom Bundespräsidenten gibt es Accounts mit Hacken und wenn nicht weißt welcher der echte ist....
Die offiziellen Accounts haben jetzt ein graues oder goldenes Häkchen, um sie von den blauen Abo-Häkchen zu unterscheiden. So schwierig is es auch wieder nicht, die richtigen Accounts zu finden.

This case really puts the spotlight on censorship versus regulation. It makes you wonder whether protecting users is being used as a justification for controlling narratives online.
I personally think the sanctions are valid. I don't like how they are trying to force censorship. I have seen way too much of that when they try to take down games as well.
