Steam announced a new VR headset, Steam Frame, coming 2026.
Was sagt ihr dazu? Würdet ihr euch die Steam Frame kaufen?

Steam has announced a new VR headset that is set to be released next year. Steam Frame. The exact release date and price have not yet been announced, but the design and specs have been released.
And the headset makes a good first impression. It is supposed to be a standalone headset, but thanks to Wi-Fi 7 and an optionally available dual-band dongle (5 and 6 GHz), it can be optimally connected to PCVR wirelessly.
The battery has been placed at the back for weight distribution, and the entire headset is said to weigh only 440 g with the battery, which is a clear improvement over the Quest 3. However, the included strap is not as comfortable, as it is made of flexible fabric and does not offer as good a hold as a fixed frame. However, there will probably be aftermarket solutions available to increase wearing comfort.
The headset uses pancake lenses with LCDs and a resolution of 2160 x 2160 per eye, which is roughly on par with the Quest 3 (2064 x 2208), but does not come close to the high-end headsets like the Apple Vision Pro or Samsung XR.
Mixed reality does not seem to be a focus of the Steam Frame, as it is only equipped with monochrome cameras.
I think this headset will mainly be used for streaming PCVR games, but that will work very well, which is the main use case for VR at the moment anyway.
I'm curious to see what the headset will actually cost. If it's not too expensive, it could be a good alternative to the Meta Quest 3. To do that, however, Steam has price it at around the same level. Anything over $1,000 will be rather difficult to sell.
What do you think? Would you buy the Steam Frame?
I've never used VR equipment but seems this one by Steam is going to be both budget friendly and functional. It's going to be a great choice for people who can't afford the ones made by Samsung and Apple. If I began using VR anytime soon I would want to try it out.
It’s nice to see Steam working on its own VR headset. I’m curious to see how it will perform compared to the Meta Quest 3, especially since it focuses mainly on gaming. Can’t wait to learn more about the price and comfort once it’s released.
The design is interesting but I would rather buy a gaming laptop.
It will depend on the price, if it's expensive like always I doubt it will sell much... However I don't plan to buy one anyways
I can see a part to adoption via gaming with this VR headset, more like an upsell product for gamers to keep with the growing era of high end games powered via VR. I hope the price point will be reasonable.
The Steam Frame VR Headset looks very cool but I will hesitate to buy if it is too expensive

2160 x 2160 resolution is a good selling point
