Robinhood kauft Bitstamp. Gut oder schlecht für europäische Nutzer?

Robinhood ist eine amerikanische Trading-App für Aktien und Kryptos, die als Zielgruppe eher den Retail-Markt hat.

Bitstamp ist eine große europäische Krypto-Börse, die bereits 2011 gegründet wurde und vor allem in UK und der EU aktiv, aber auch in den US-Markt expandiert ist. Fokus von Bitstamp sind auch institutionelle Anleger.

Als Kaufpreis werden 200 Millionen Dollar genannt, was auf den ersten Blick gar nicht so viel erscheint.

Robinhood hat aktuell eine MarketCap von 20 Milliarden, ist damit der größere Player, der sich vor allem mit dem niederschwelligen Aktien-Handel und dem GME-Skandal einen Namen gemacht hat. Robinhood wurde damals vorgeworfen, den Aktienhandel mit GME aufgrund von Druck der Wall Street für Privatanleger gestoppt zu haben.

Mit der Übernahme erhofft sich Robinhood eine Expansion Richtung Europa und noch größer zu werden. Andererseits ist es aus europäischer Sicht wieder schade, dass ein erfolgreiches Krypto-Unternehmen von einem US-Konzern aufgekauft wird.

Robinhood is an American trading app for shares and cryptos, which tends to target the retail market.

Bitstamp is a large European crypto exchange that was founded in 2011 and is primarily active in the UK and the EU, but has also expanded into the US market. Bitstamp also focuses on institutional investors.

The purchase price is said to be 200 million dollars, which does not seem like much at first glance.

Robinhood currently has a market cap of 20 billion, making it the larger player, which has made a name for itself primarily with low-threshold share trading and the GME scandal. At the time, Robinhood was accused of having halted stock trading with GME for private investors due to pressure from Wall Street.

With the takeover, Robinhood hopes to expand into Europe and become even bigger. On the other hand, from a European perspective, it is once again a pity that a successful European crypto company is sold to a US company.
