Petition to save Sunken City opposite of Copa Beach in Vienna

Restructuring is definitely needed. If not, it will remain prone to further damage in the future.

Als ich vor 25 Jahren am Prater in Wien gewohnt habe, war das ein Hotspot für mich. Vor 5 Jahren war ich wieder dort und für mich war der Flair fast vollkommen verschwunden. Schade.

isnt it a good thing if there is redevelopment in the area? maybe it will be much more attractive and might attract more tourist.

I think it depends on how long it's been there? Is this a historic are? Is it unique? If it adds to culture to the city it's probably worth keeping. In the end it probably comes down to the land owners, do they want to sell out? If they do there isn't much that can be done, but if they don't they shouldn't be forced out. Just my take!

Für mich ist diese Gegend ohnehin verloren. Egal, ob modernisiert oder nicht. Nochdazu wird das alles aus Steuermitteln bezahlt. Es wäre besser, wenn in Wien die Steuern und Lebenskosten (ich sage nur "WienEnergie") niedriger wären, als Vergnügungsstätten für die dumben Massen zu kreieren.

I too liked the 'seedy' flair

but it is not everyone's cup of tea. From my place in Floridsdorf I used to walk the whole length along the Neue Donau, but have not been that way since it became a construction zone.
I'd say keep it, but good luck - I think their minds are made up and from past experience I have little hope that any petition would elicit much more than a bored smile from the powers to be in Vienna.

There is another place in Vienna I like to go to in the warm season, and that is the Strandbar Herrmann - and hopefully, it stays the same.

Ich war nie dort aber von den Fotos die ich gefunden habe schaut es schon schäbig aus.

Schade finde ich, dass hier wieder mal Architekten mit dem heute allgemein üblichen 0815 Standard zum Zug kommen. Und dass nicht das was vorher da war kreativ neu interpretiert wird.

Für eine moderne saubere Betonwüste.. pfff. Uniformität über alles.

Last es nicht versinken und hört endlich auf mit diesen anglophonen Titeln. Diese verwirren umso mehr; ist aber auch das Ziel der INVESTOREN.

I think it depends but if there are structural problems in the old buildings, then a reconstruction is needed. I don't think all of it should be paid off by the government but I am not sure about all the details.

Who ultimately decides if the construction will take place? A popular referendum, an official from the building authority, or a politician?
