Microsoft hat seit 2011 vor allem in den USA über 100 physische Stores eröffnet, aber seit Corona fast alle Stores wieder geschlossen und die verbliebenen Stores in New York, London und Sydney in "Microsoft Experience Centers" umbenannt.

Mit Anfang Februar 2025 wurde nun aber auch der Flagship-Store in London geschlossen, der fast 2000 m^2 groß war.

Schade, hätte den Store noch gerne besichtigt, aber er war bereits permanent geschlossen.

Denke Microsoft stellt selber kaum Hardware her, daher sind die physischen Stores anders als bei Apple gar nicht wirklich notwendig. Auch ist Microsoft mehr Business orientiert als Apple.

Was denkt ihr? Warum hat Microsoft fast alle Retail-Stores wieder geschlossen? Warum hat das Konzept eurer Meinung nicht funktioniert?

Microsoft has opened over 100 physical stores since 2011, mainly in the US, but has closed almost all of them since corona and renamed the remaining stores in New York, London and Sydney “Microsoft Experience Centers”.

Since February 2025, the flagship store in London, which was 21,000 square feet in size, was also closed.

Too bad, I would have liked to visit the store, but it was already permanently closed.

I think Microsoft hardly produces any hardware itself, so unlike Apple, the physical stores are not really necessary. Microsoft is also more business-oriented than Apple.

What do you think? Why has Microsoft closed almost all of its retail stores? Why do you think the concept didn't work?

I don't think it was intentional. They just opened too many shops at once and everything stopped working. So the only way forward was to close down before starting again! 😂🤣😂

Of course, it is a fact that when a business starts making losses, it has to be liquidated or else the debts keep piling up.

Wenn man kaumeigene Hardware hat, lohnt sich das ja nicht. Das Geld kann man leider sparen und anderweitig investieren

They are in the business of making more and closing more retail stores is what the business needs, is what will be done. The

I've never even seen a Microsoft store here in the US. I think you're right that they don't need them, they have very little hardware and that can be shipped. I don't know why they even bothered opening them in first place, as a software company physical stores are going to be money pits!

Ich als Kunde von Microsoft wüsste jetzt nicht unbedingt, was ich in einem Microsoft Laden soll. 😅 Anschauen würde ich es mir auf jeden Fall mal, aber "regelmäßig" besuchen würde ich ihn wohl nicht.

Wobei ich das als Apple-Kunde auch zu den Apple-Stores sagen muss, da bin ich auch quasi nie drin.

Interessant - auf der Seattle Airport hat Microsoft seinen eigenen Kontor. 2016 war das gut für mich, weil damals hatte Delta Air einen Computerausfall und ich konnte meinen Boarding Pass nicht bekommen, denn da waren Schlangen bei Delta angestellt wo alles manuell gemacht werden musste. Ich hätte dadurch meinen Flug versäumt. Aber ich kam ins Gespräch mit 2 netten Damen beim Microsoft Kontor, und die buchten mich auf British Airways um, und ich war eigentlich schneller zu Hause als mit meinem ursprünglichen Flug. Es lohnt sich wenn man nicht scheu ist und höflich fragt.

I think retail is just slowly dying as more people shift online. It's not that they can't survive, but it's kind of rough since Microsoft tends to be a tech related company and you can get the alternatives online.
