Meta announced a new cheaper VR headset, Quest 3S starting at only $300 or €340 in Europe, same processor as Quest 3 but worse lenses. Steal?

While Microsoft recently announced that it was discontinuing the HoloLens 2, presumably due to low demand for augmented reality, Meta is launching a new, affordable entry-level headset. Brave?
The more affordable Meta Quest 3S will be available from October 15th and the starting price for the smaller 128 GB version is $300 in the US and €340 in the EU.
The price of Quest 3 has also been reduced in the EU and currently costs €490.
The new entry-level VR headset has the same processor as the Quest 3 and also supports augmented reality (color pass-through with cameras).
However, the biggest difference to the Quest 3 is that the cheaper 3S uses poorer lenses, namely the Fresnel lenses from the Quest 2 and not the newer, better and flatter pancake lenses of the Q3.
The resolution is also reduced, 1832x1920 instead of 2064x2208 per eye and the field of view is also smaller on the 3S, 96ºH 90ºV instead of 110ºH 96ºV.
In terms of weight, both headsets are roughly the same, weighing in at 514 and 515 grams.
Overall, I think the new headset is a steal if you don't already have a VR headset, but I would recommend the Quest 3 because of its better optics.
What do you think of the new, cheaper 3S headset from Meta? Would you buy it?

I don't understand, if the Euro is worth more than the Dollar, why are they 300$ and 340 Euros? Is it taxes or is something wrong?
both, taxes, price in the US is without VAT, but also higher prices in the EU unfortunately.
@vikisecrets and @florakese - idk much about VAT in the US, but understand it is added to the bill as a separate charge. I lived in Canada, and there it is called GST (general sales tax) which is different in each province, with Alberta being the lowest at 5%, but most others are between 17 and 20%. In the EU, the listed prices include the VAT, but not so in the USA or Canada, where it is understood by all that VAT-GST will be added. The exchange rate of the € against the US$ is marginal now, with the € only slightly higher. If you do the math, it comes out to about the same price. So no 'conspiracy' of price-gouging here, except that often items are cheaper in Germany than in Austria, and that is indeed price-gouging, which has nothing to do with taxes, but everything with the greed of merchants, particularly wholesalers. Just compare flyers of Aldi in Germany with those of Hofer in Austria. Same company. There seems to be a reason why some companies with Amazon.de do not ship to Austria, because they sell their stuff through other (sister?)-companies to Austria at a higher price.

I can’t buy the new
They have only little differences and it’s quite expensive
It makes sense but too expensive so I can’t buy it
I would if I could afford it, I love the features.
I find it expensive and not very useful, but I'm sure it has its audience.
Just when prices are low, people will be interested in the product again and we may see higher sales.
Why is it that expensive?
Well, some people can buy it
I think offering a cheaper version is a good idea. Probably gets more people to try it out and if they like it they might buy the more expensive version at some point.
Many people probably don't want to spend too much money on stuff like that without trying it out first.
Maybe if it's even cheaper in a few months or so, I might actually consider buying one to try out VR.
I would not buy it but I like the idea of a cheaper model. I think that the VR/AR technology isn't there yet. I don't think the software there for games is enough to attract people over.
Still expensive though according to my own perspective
