German Bundeswehr left Greenland again. Do you think the US will invade Greenland or buy it?

Die Deutsche Bundeswehr hat Grönland blitzartig wieder verlassen. Offiziell war die Bundeswehr in einer Erkundungsmission bzw. Training gegen Russland in Grönland, damit keine Anti-US-Stimmung verbreitet wird.

Was denkt ihr, was hat Trump mit Grönland vor, warum riskiert er mit einer Annexion und mit einem Zollkrieg die Beziehungen zur EU und der NATO aufs Spiel zu setzen?

Die EU sieht Grönland eher in ihrer Einflusssphäre. Offiziell ist es ein autonomes Gebiet von Dänemark, aber kein Mitglied der EU.

Rational ist das alles nicht mehr meiner Meinung nach. In Wirklichkeit braucht die USA Grönland gar nicht zu annektieren, da Grönland bereits in der NATO ist und die USA bereits eine Militär-Basis auf Grönland betreiben und diese auch ausbauen könnten.

Auf der anderen Seite ist die Beziehung der Grönländer zu Dänemark angespannt, in den 1960-er und 1970-er Jahren ist es anscheinend zu Zwangs-Verhütungen von Frauen und einer umstrittenen Bevölkerungskontrolle in Grönland gekommen. Viele Grönländer wären vermutlich lieber unabhängig als irgendeinem Bündnis anzugehören. Aber realistisch ist das auch nicht als Staat mit nur 50 Tausend Einwohnern. Das ist in Wirklichkeit eine Kleinstadt. Ohne EU oder USA geht das auch nicht, da die Insel ohne NATO dann tatsächlich irgendwann von einer anderen Militärmacht wie Russland oder China annektiert werden könnte, wenn es nicht die USA vorher machen.

Denke, dass Trump mit diesen Aktionen Chaos schafft und von der NATO austreten möchte. Anders kann man das nicht erklären.

Was sagt ihr dazu? Denkt ihr wird die USA in Grönland einmarschieren und es annektieren oder eher kaufen? Was wären die Folgen für die NATO und die US-EU Beziehungen?

What do you think Trump has in mind for Greenland? Why is he risking US relationship with the EU and NATO by annexing Greenland and starting a trade war?

The EU sees Greenland as part of its sphere of influence. Officially, it is an autonomous territory of Denmark, but not a member of the EU.

In my opinion, none of this is rational anymore. In reality, the US does not need to annex Greenland, as Greenland is already in NATO and the US already operates a military base there, which they could expand at any time.

On the other hand, the relationship between Greenlanders and Denmark is tense. In the 1960s and 1970s, there were apparently cases of forced contraception of women and forced population control in Greenland. Many Greenlanders would probably prefer to be independent rather than belong to any alliance. But that is not realistic for a country with only 50,000 inhabitants. Greenland is, in reality, a small town. Without the EU or the US, it is also not possible, as without NATO, the island could actually be annexed by another military power such as Russia or China at some point, if the US does not do so first.

I think Trump is creating chaos with these actions and wants to rather leave NATO. There's no other way to explain it.
