Edinburgh at Night (Royal Scots Greys Monument)
Was sagt ihr dazu?
Monument to the Royal Scots Greys in Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh, erected in 1906 to commemorate the fallen of the Regiment during the Boer War
English
The Royal Scots Grey Monument commemorates the Scottish cavalry regiment, “The Royal Regiment of Scots Dragoons”, which joined the British Army in 1707 in the course of the Union with the UK (England) and fought in South Africa from 1875-1905 in the Second Boer War.
Incidentally, the British Empire defeated both African states (South African Republic and Orange Free State), which became British colonies.
It is incredible how successful and huge the British Empire was back then. Over the centuries, the British also achieved successes in Canada, Hong Kong, India, Australia and New Zealand.
However, most of the colonies fought for independence but are still partly part of the Commonwealth.
Scotland also gained more rights and its own parliament in 1999. However, many Scots would like to be completely independent of the UK. There was even an independence referendum in 2014, which the UK narrowly won with 55%.
Fascinating history, isn't it?

I have heard about the British empire
This is a beautiful piece
It's a fascinating story, marked by intrigue and transformation. Seeing how the British Empire evolved over time and left its mark on so many parts of the world is truly remarkable.
Interesting! Thank you for sharing the history
We have a similar statue like this in our country. It's dated way back 1800' when our country fought from Spanish colonization.
Cool! I hope to visit this monument in Edinburgh.
History is always interesting. It looks like a nice piece too
