Disney is exiting physical media (DVDs/Blu-Rays) in Australia / NZ. Are DVDs going extinct?

I do think that they are already a niche for collectors but you never know there are vinyl records.

Ganz wegdenken würde ich das nicht. CD/DVD ist eine Art „Self custody“ für Content, ganz ohne Blockchain. Aber es ist eben deins. Disney+ kann im Zweifel auch Inhalte rausnehmen oder nicht mehr bereit stellen. Auch könnten Filme im Nachhinein sogar verändert werden wenn ich an die Zukunft von KI denke. Das hat auch persönlich unerwünschte Effekte.
Von daher hoffe ich die CD/DVD bleibt als Markt/Medium erhalten. Platten haben ja auch nach wie vor ihre Liebhaber und ihren Platz in der Musikwelt, oder?

Greta thunberg soll Mal analysieren wieviel 1 Film pro DVD, pro Stream an CO2 emmitiert. Mein Tipp: streaming ist "klimaschädlicher", wird sich also in der hiesigen Zeit nur durchsetzen, wenn keiner so genau draufschaut.

When we already have tv that has online streaming platforms like netflix and others, dvd is gradually going into extinction.

I think we should just embrace whatever decision they've made regarding dvd, they've done alot over the years.

As technology evolves, dvd's will surely be out. people are already using usb. i dont even download movies anymore. i just watch netflix or any streaming sites.

Ich bin vor ein paar Wochen in die Stadt (50.000 EW) gefahren und wollte mir "The Batman" als Bluray holen. In keinem Laden gab es den, noch nicht einmal im Saturn. Die Läden vor Ort schmeißen die DVD´s und Bluray´s ganz aus dem Regal, weil die Nachfrage sinkt.
Aber als Stream "online" wollten die da noch 12.99 für den Film haben (aktuell 5,99).

Ich höre nie Musik über Streaming-Dienste, sondern lade sie mir immer als mp3 herunter. Leider geht das bei Filmen nicht wirklich. Da gibt es keine Möglichkeit wie bei Bandcamp einfach einen Film zu kaufen und herunterzuladen. Die Konsequenz ist also zukünftig: Wenn man Filme sichern will, muss man sie von einer Torrent-Seite herunterladen, ohne etwas dafür zu bezahlen.

Könnte den Sammelmarkt bei Cds/DVDs/Blu-rays fast schon wiederbeleben, wenn sich das ganze Global durchsetzt. Gibt ja genügend Menschen die etwas was Ihnen gefällt, auch physisch ohne Online Zwang bei sich stehen haben wollen. Das gleiche sehen wir ja bei der großen Popularität von physischen Spielen. Da könnte man durchaus das ganze im Blick behalten und im Fall der Fälle die Filme noch frühzeitig billig aufkaufen, entweder für sich selber oder um etwas Profit daraus zu ziehen.

everything is on the internet. I'm surprised that anyone still buys CDs. When it can be pirated or downloaded.

I was born in 1967. I have already experienced enough novelties that have gone out of fashion for some time. The only thing that can be said about the future is that we cannot predict it.

I think it's a shame for it to die out but I think there are digital copies all over the web. So I don't really think it will disappear, but I guess it's probably feeding the pirating services or streaming services if it does.

DVDs gibt es schon seit mittlerweile über 25 Jahren, hat sich eigentlich recht lange gehalten als Datenträger, vor allem da Blu-Ray ihnen nie wirklich den Rang ablaufen konnten.
