It is true that sometimes anecdotes arise unexpectedly from travels, and so do learnings. As some of you know here, I live in the city of Valencia, Venezuela, but I was born and raised in a town called Montalban, which is about an hour away from the city, and every time we have the opportunity we go there to visit friends and family. In those days I remember that it was already necessary to buy a new tire for my car, but as sometimes happens I kept postponing the moment since I had (as it should be) a spare one. However, when my wife and I were returning home from the trip we started to hear a noise and when I stopped to check I found out that it was the rubber, which was damaged, so I set out to find and install the spare and now I would go to buy a new one.
Es verdad que a veces las anécdotas surgen inesperadamente de los viajes, y también los aprendizajes. Cómo algunos de ustedes saben aquí, yo vivo en la ciudad de Valencia, Venezuela, pero nací y crecí en un pueblo llamado Montalbán que está más o menos a una hora de distancia de la ciudad, y cada vez que tenemos oportunidad vamos para allá a visitar a amigos y familiares. Para esos días yo recuerdo que ya era necesario comprar un caucho nuevo para mi carro, pero como a veces ocurre fui posponiendo el momento en vista de que tenía (como debe ser) uno de repuesto. Sin embargo, cuando mi esposa y yo regresábamos a casa del viaje empezamos a escuchar un ruido y al detenerme para revisar comprobé que se trataba del caucho, el cual estaba dañado, así que me dispuse a buscar e instalar el de repuesto para ahora sí dedicarme a ir a comprar uno nuevo.
But it turns out that the spare rubber that apparently was fine began to give problems after touring some tire stores in the city, but fortunately let us get to one that happened to be on the road to our house. I remember that at that time when I bought it they sold it to me for 37 $ because it was new, and as I thought it was a good price I bought it there, but look how the spare tire was, shattered.
Pero resulta que el caucho de repuesto que aparentemente estaba bien comenzó a dar problemas luego de recorrer algunas tiendas de cauchos de la ciudad, pero afortunadamente nos dejó llegar una que casualmente estaba en la via hacia nuestra casa. Recuerdo que en ese momento cuando lo compré me lo vendieron en 37 $ pues estaba completamente nuevo, y como me pareció un buen precio fue allí donde lo compré, pero miren como quedó el caucho de repuesto, hecho añicos.
While we were waiting for the removal of the old tire and the installation of the new one, I remember that my wife and I were talking and above all thanking God that this did not happen on the road because it would have cost us a lot, not to say that it would have been an impossible task, to get a new tire, from this we learned a valuable lesson and as the good adage says “do not leave for tomorrow what you can do today” I should have bought it before and not let this happen, fortunately the spare tire allowed me to get to the store to buy a new one.
Mientras esperábamos a que hicieran el debido retiro de la llanta vieja y la instalación de la nueva, recuerdo que mi esposa y yo estábamos conversando y sobre todo agradeciendo a Dios que eso no nos ocurrió en carretera porque ahí sí nos hubiese costado mucho, por no decir que hubiese sido una empres imposible, conseguir un caucho nuevo, de esto queda un valioso aprendizaje y ya lo dice el buen adagio "no dejes para mañana lo que puedes hacer hoy" he debido comprarlo antes y no dejar que esto pasara, afortunadamente el caucho de repuesto me permitió llegar a la tienda para comprar uno nuevo.
