Today I want to talk to you about a book that has helped me since I first read it back in the 80s. It's by Og Mandino, a writer I greatly admire for being an author who writes for the soul of his readers. His books can help you, but they are not the typical self-help books with tedious lessons that you must learn one by one. No, Og Mandino enters your heart through wonderful and meaningful stories that also leave you with a strange feeling of not being able to specify whether they happened in real life or not. Anyone who has read Og Mandino and knows his fiction will know what I mean.
Hoy quiero hablarles de un libro que me ha servido desde que lo leí por primera vez allá, por los años 80, es de Og Mandino, un escritor a quien admiro mucho por ser un autor que escribe para el alma de sus lectores, sus libros pueden ayudarte pero no son los típicos libros de auto ayuda con lecciones tediosas que debes aprender una a una, no, Og Mandino entra en tu corazón a través de historias maravillosas y significativas que además te dejan con una sensación extraña al no poder precisar si sucedieron en la vida real o no. Quien haya leído a Og Mandino y conozca su narrativa sabrá a qué me refiero.
In this book, the author tells the story of Hafid, a merchant or Bedouin (desert pilgrim) who, after failing a mission for his mentor and feeling terribly diminished as a person because of it, suddenly receives a wonderful gift: 10 scrolls with secrets to achieving success and becoming the Greatest Salesman in the World.
En este libro el autor nos muestra la historia de Hafid, un mercader o beduino (peregrino del desierto) que tras fracasar en una misión para su mentor, y sentirse terriblemente disminuido como persona por eso, de pronto recibe un regalo maravilloso, se trata de 10 pergaminos con secretos para alcanzar el éxito y convertirse así en el Vendedor Más Grande del Mundo.
In this way, by reading the story of Hafid and all the advice he receives in these scrolls, we ourselves find the key to significantly improve our lives. It is about following habits that are perfectly plausible, and the author emphasizes, through his story, that the mentality of the human being is fundamental and decisive in the process, for example, a mind that is open to success will achieve success, but one that is predisposed to failure we already know how it will end.
De esta manera, al leer la historia de Hafid y todos los consejos que recibe en estos pergaminos, nosotros mismos hallamos la clave para mejorar significativamente en nuestras vidas, se trata de seguir hábitos que son perfectamente plausibles, y el autor enfatiza, a través de su relato, que la mentalidad del ser humano es fundamental y determinante en el proceso, por ejemplo, una mente que se abre para el éxito, obtendrá éxito, pero una que está predispuesta al fracaso ya sabemos como terminará.
What I like most about Og Mandino's books is that he uses his stories and characters to test the lessons he intends to teach you, in this way we can see Hafid's progress applying each of these principles indicated in the scrolls for a month, that is, each month follows a different one, which allows us to put the situation into context and imagine how it would work in our own lives. These valuable principles are: Becoming a slave to good habits, attitude and love, persistence, self-confidence, living in the moment (which is very important because sometimes thinking too much about the future is precisely what prevents us from moving forward and evolving), control of emotions, laughter (a fundamental ingredient to lead a healthy and happy life), personal courage, action, and the most important of all, prayer, since it is the door that leads us to God, that is, the source of wisdom and well-being.
Lo que más me gusta de los libros de Og Mandino es que usa sus historias y personajes para probar las lecciones que pretende enseñarte, de esta manera podemos ver el progreso de Hafid aplicando cada uno de estos principios indicados en los pergaminos durante un mes, es decir, cada mes sigue uno diferente, lo cuál nos permite poner en contexto la situación e imaginar como funcionaría en nuestras propias vidas. Estos valiosos principios son: Volverse esclavo de buenos hábitos, actitud y amor, persistencia, confianza en uno mismo, vivir el momento (lo cuál es muy importante porque a veces tanto pensar en el futuro es precisamente lo que nos impide avanzar y evolucionar) Control de las emociones, risa (ingrediente fundamental para llevar una vida sana y feliz) valor personal, acción, y el más importante de todos, la oración, ya que es la puerta que nos conduce a Dios, osea la fuente de la sabiduría y el bienestar.
This author also has another book that I think is one of the best I've read—in fact, I think it's the best—called The Greatest Miracle in the World.
