Physical books and Ebooks. Which one do you prefer? (ESP/ENG)

There is no doubt that we are in the digital era, a time of changes and new trends that promise to make our lives a little easier, however there will always be that charm for the traditional, and of course this also concerns the world of literature, so today readers have different formats from which we can choose to live the experience of enjoying a good book, the most prominent being the physical format and the digital format, not that one is necessarily better than the other, they are simply two different experiences that meet the needs of each reader. In other posts I have slightly mentioned this topic but in this one I would like to talk more extensively about it giving you my personal opinion about what I consider are the advantages and disadvantages of each format.
No cabe duda de que estamos en la era digital, una época de cambios y nuevas tendencias que prometen hacernos la vida un poco más fácil, sin embargo siempre existirá ese encanto propio por lo tradicional, y desde luego que esto también concierne al mundo de la literatura, por eso hoy en día los lectores tenemos distintos formatos entre los que podemos elegir para vivir la experiencia de disfrutar de un buen libro, siendo los más destacados el formato físico y el formato digital, no es que uno sea necesariamente mejor que el otro, simplemente son dos experiencias diferentes que satisfacen las necesidades de cada lector. En otros post yo he mencionado ligeramente este tema pero en este me gustaría hablar más ampliamente sobre eso dándoles mi opinión personal acerca de lo que considero son las ventajas y desventajas de cada formato.
Storage and practicality/Almacenamiento y practicidad
There is no doubt that in this sense all the advantage goes to the digital format, since a single device is capable of storing a lot of information, hundreds or even thousands of books (depending on the memory of the device obviously) is lightweight, portable, small and whenever you can carry it will be at your disposal so you can read wherever and whenever you want, in addition, some like Kindle offer the option to underline to look up in the dictionary certain word, and all this is a huge advantage compared to physical books that although they are equally portable are heavier, take up more space and obviously do not offer functions to know the meaning of a certain word, so here I do not think there is something to question, or to say in favor of physical books, except perhaps the fact that you do not need to carry a physical book to read it.
No cabe ninguna duda que en este sentido toda la ventaja se la lleva el formato digital, ya que un solo dispositivo es capaz de almacenar muchísima información, cientos e incluso miles de libros (dependiendo de la memoria del dispositivo obviamente) es ligero, portátil, pequeño y siempre que puedas cargarlo estará a tu disposición para que puedas leer donde y cuando quieras, además, algunos como Kindle ofrecen la opción de subrayar para buscar en el diccionario determinada palabra, y todo esto es una enorme ventaja si lo comparamos con los libros físicos que aunque son igualmente portátiles son más pesados, ocupan más espacio y evidentemente no te ofrecen funciones para conocer el significado de determinada palabra, así que aquí no creo que haya algo que cuestionar, o que decir a favor de los libros físicos, salvo tal vez el hecho de que no necesitas cargar un libro físico para poder leerlo.
Sense of belonging/Sentido de pertenencia
One of the things we have to take into account is our generation, perhaps the lens through which one format or another is viewed will depend on the generation to which each reader belongs, for example digital natives, that is, those who were born in the digital era, more or less from the 2000s to the present day, are much more familiar with electronic devices than those who were born much earlier, and this is intrinsically linked to the sense of belonging. I particularly feel that when I pick up an electronic device to read, be it a tablet, my cell phone or my computer, even if I have thousands of books stored on it, which is a tremendous advantage, they are not really mine, I don't know how to explain it but it is not the same as when I directly touch a physical book and I can turn its pages or write a dedication if I am going to give it as a gift, I think that a physical book is more personal and therefore I feel it is more mine.
Una de las cosas que tenemos que tomar en cuenta obligatoriamente es nuestra generación, tal vez el cristal con que se mire un formato u otro dependerá de la generación a la que pertenezca cada lector, por ejemplo los nativos digitales, osea, los que nacieron en plena época digital, más o menos desde los años 2000 hasta nuestros días, están mucho más familiarizados con los dispositivos electrónicos que los que nacimos mucho antes, y esto está intrínsecamente ligado al sentido de pertenencia. Yo particularmente siento que cuando tomo un dispositivo electrónico para leer, bien sea una tablet, mi teléfono celular o mi computadora, aunque tenga almacenados miles de libros, lo cual es una tremenda ventaja, no son míos realmente, no sé como explicarlo pero no es lo mismo que cuando toco directamente un libro físico y puedo pasar sus páginas o escribir una dedicatoria si voy a regalarlo, pienso que un libro físico es más personal y por lo tanto lo siento más mío.
Availability and price/Disponibilidad y precio
Digital books are much cheaper and also have advantages over the physical book in the sense that you can buy as many as you want, no matter if it is a best seller that is trending, there is no risk of running out of stock, unlike physical books which depend on the number of copies that are made with each edition,
Los libros digitales son mucho más económicos y además también tienen ventajas sobre el libro físico en el sentido de que puedes compras cuantos quieras, no importa si se trata de un best seller que está en tendencia, no hay riesgo de que se agoten, a diferencia de los libros físicos los cuales dependen de las tiradas de ejemplares que se hagan con cada edición,
Experience/Experiencia
Each of the formats, although they contain the same information will offer us a completely different experience, for example, when you take your device to read, the experience is only visual, the only thing that changes from book to book is the cover design and layout, however each physical book is different, it has its own smell and texture on the pages and cover, moreover, when you give them as a gift, as I said before, you can write a dedication, or even receive an autograph from the author himself if you have the opportunity, which further elevates the experience, on the other hand physical books adorn and decorate any shelf, so they also function as decorative elements that give a bohemian and intellectual touch to any space,
Cada uno de los formatos, aunque contengan la misma información nos ofrecerá una experiencia completamente distinta, por ejemplo, cuando tomas tu dispositivo para leer, la experiencia es únicamente visual, lo único que cambia de libro a libro es el diseño de la portada y la diagramación, sin embargo cada libro físico es diferente, tiene su propio olor y textura en las hojas y en la tapa, además, cuando los obsequias, tal como dije anteriormente, puedes escribir una dedicatoria, o incluso recibir un autógrafo del propio autor si tienes la oportunidad, lo cuál eleva aún más la experiencia, por otra parte los libros físicos adornan y engalanan cualquier estantería, así que también funcionan como elementos de decoración que les dan un toque bohemio e intelectual a cualquier espacio,
Anyway, I think that both formats can coexist perfectly and in fact, I'm glad that the physical book format has survived the digital era, but I think it has done so because of what I mentioned above, because regardless of the advantages or disadvantages that one or the other may offer, there is no one who is better in every way, it's just a matter of finding the one that best suits your specific needs and tastes or the experience you are looking for. For my art I prefer physical books, but I resort to digital ones when I don't get what I'm looking for in bookstores, but what do you think, which one do you prefer?
En fin, opino que ambos formatos pueden coexistir perfectamente y de hecho, me alegra que el formato de libro físico haya sobrevivido a la era digital, pero creo que lo ha hecho por lo que he mencionado anteriormente, porque independientemente de las ventajas o desventajas que pueda ofrecer uno u otro, no existe quien sea mejor en todos los sentidos, solo se trata de buscar el que mejor se adapte a tus necesidades y gustos específicos o a la experiencia que estés buscando. Por mi arte prefiero los libros físicos, pero recurro a los digitales cuando no consigo lo que estoy buscando en librerías, pero ¿Qué opinas tú? ¿Cuál prefieres?
