I have had the opportunity to read this book, after having seen the movie, and the truth is that if the first one impacted me, I must admit that the emotions become more intense as you move from chapter to chapter in this version, so without further ado I will share with you my impressions about Perfume, the story of a murderer, by Patrick Süskind.
He tenido la oportunidad de leer este libro, luego de haber visto la película, y la verdad es que si la primera me impactó, debo reconocer que las emociones se vuelven más intensa conforme avanzas de capítulo en capítulo en esta versión, así que sin más dilación me dispongo a compartir con ustedes mis impresiones acerca de El Perfume, la historia de un asesino, por Patrick Süskind

Jean-Baptiste Grenouille is a peculiar young man because he was born with an extremely sensitive sense of smell, which leads him, over time, to work with one of the greatest and most prestigious perfumers in Paris, from whom he learned valuable methods and techniques for the trade, but also gained a strong obsession with getting to develop the perfect fragrance, However, Jean Baptiste leaves behind him a trail of death in the search for the ingredients he needs to create this divine elixir because, according to his knowledge, he would need to find thirteen essences, which, according to his twisted mind, he could find through girls, young women who keep in their being the purest and most delicious aroma.
Jean-Baptiste Grenouille es un jovencito peculiar pues nació con un olfato extremadamente sensible, lo cual lo lleva, con el pasar del tiempo, a trabajar con uno de los más grandes y prestigiosos perfumistas de París, del cuál aprendió métodos y técnicas valiosas para el oficio, pero además también ganó una fuerte obsesión con conseguir elaborar la fragancia perfecta, no obstante Jean Baptiste va dejando detrás de si una estela de muerte en la búsqueda de los ingredientes que necesita para crear ese elixir divino pues, según su conocimiento, necesitaría encontrar trece esencias, las cuales, de acuerdo con su retorcida mente podría encontrar a través de algunas muchachas, jovencitas que guardan en su ser el más puro y delicioso aroma.
What caught my attention in this story, is that although Jean Baptiste is obviously a great danger to society, he does not carry out his acts moved by cruelty, but by the instinct born of his obsession, in fact, from the beginning of the novel he is not described as a human being, even what predominates in this novel is the exact and perfect description of the different aromas and essences that the protagonist perceives in his passage through the world, however he is not able to perceive an aroma of any kind in himself, which makes him extraordinary but for him it is frustrating. He also cannot perceive the world as others do, he does not understand the abstract concepts of life, he cannot relate to others through a simple dialogue or healthy coexistence, he perceives the world from one of the most primitive aspects, the sense of smell, which gives others the erroneous feeling that he is a “retard”.
Lo que me llamó la atención de esta historia, es que a pesar de que obviamente Jean Baptiste es un gran peligro para la sociedad, él no lleva a cabo sus actos movido por la crueldad, sino por el instinto que nace de su obsesión, de hecho, desde el inicio de la novela él no es descrito como un ser humano, incluso lo que predomina en esta novela es la descripción exacta y perfecta de los diferentes aromas y esencias que el protagonista percibe en su paso por el mundo, sin embargo no es capaz de percibir un aroma de ninguna índole en sí mismo, lo cual lo vuelve extraordinario pero para él resulta frustrante. Él tampoco puede percibir el mundo como lo hacen los demás, no comprende los conceptos abstractos de la vida, no puede relacionarse con los demás a través de un simple diálogo o la sana convivencia, él percibe el mundo desde uno de los aspectos más primitivos, el olfato, lo cuál les da la errónea sensación a los demás de que es un "retrasado"
In the end, and although I will not reveal further details so as not to ruin the experience of anyone who intends to read the work, we know that Jean Baptiste seems tempted by the idea of being loved and respected by everyone, even though he cannot perceive such feelings. Perhaps precisely from the lack of affection, from the very fact that he was disowned by his own mother from birth, the human being almost always desires what he has not had, in Jean Baptiste's case: love, understanding and acceptance, but once he managed to obtain it he finally discovered that he was not satisfied with that, which led him to make a decision that was fatal and disconcerting at the same time.
Al final, y aunque no revelaré mayores detalles para no arruinar la experiencia de nadie que pretenda leer la obra, sabemos que Jean Baptiste parece tentado por la idea de que todos lo amen y lo respeten, a pesar de que él no puede percibir tales sentimientos ¿De dónde proviene entonces este deseo? Tal vez precisamente de la carencia de afecto, del hecho mismo de que fue repudiado por su propia madre desde el nacimiento, el ser humano casi siempre desea lo que no ha tenido, en el caso de Jean Baptiste: amor, comprensión y aceptación, pero una vez que logró obtenerlo descubrió finalmente que no se sentía satisfecho con eso, lo cual lo llevó a tomar una decisión fatal y desconcertante al mismo tiempo.
The work keeps you in suspense all the time but especially when we know that Jean Baptiste only lacks one victim to complete his macabre compendium, and the girl's father does everything possible to hide her, being also the only one who has discovered the modus operandi of the murderer, so it is a gripping read that flows through a very dynamic narrative.
La obra te mantiene en vilo todo el tiempo pero sobre todo cuando sabemos que a Jean Baptiste solo le falta una víctima para completar su compendio macabro, y el padre de la muchacha hace todo lo posible por esconderla, siendo además el único que ha descubierto el modus operandi del asesino, así que es una lectura atrapante que fluye a través de una narrativa muy dinámica.

Uhm, ¡qué interesante! Fíjate que no he leído El Perfume, ni he visto la peli, pero con tu descripción me has dejado intrigado. Me imagino que debe ser súper intenso meterse en la cabeza de alguien así. Me has picado la curiosidad, la verdad.
Te recomiendo ambas, pero leyendo primero la versión literaria, seguramente te gustará mucho, te mantendrá armando conjeturas todos el tiempo.
