Extraordinary Stories (Review) ESP/ENG

Today I would like to tell you about a book I found one boring afternoon on one of the bookshelves in my house. The power was out, and since it was still daylight, I decided to pass the time reading something. The cover of this book caught my eye, but my interest grew when I saw who the author was: none other than the great Edgar Allan Poe. So I settled into my armchair to start reading.
Hoy me gustaría hablarles de un libro que encontré en una tarde de tedio en una de las estanterías de mi casa, se había la electricidad y aprovechando que aún era de día quise pasar el rato leyendo algo, me llamó la atención la portada de este libro pero mi interés creció al ver quién era el autor, nada más y nada menos que el gran Edgar Allan Poe, así que me acomodé en mi sillón para iniciar la lectura.
Extraordinary Stories is precisely that, literally, a collection of stories that are out of the ordinary, some of which even generate a great deal of anxiety due to the efficiency of Allan Poe's method of description. He uses rhetoric in his narrative, something very typical of writers of past centuries, but this adds a great deal of elegance to the story and sometimes intensifies the dark and gothic aura of each story. In the poem The Raven, for example, you can almost feel the uncertainty and pressure of the protagonist as he looks at the bird perched on the bust of Pallas, a bird that utters only one phrase, “Nevermore,” and this phrase becomes increasingly emphatic until it drives the protagonist out of his mind, which makes me reflect on my own thoughts. Often it is our own mind that plays tricks on us, our conscience echoes everything we have done or failed to do, tormenting us tirelessly and relentlessly. The raven is therefore a representation of our own conscience, at least in my opinion.
Historias Extraordinarias se trata precisamente de eso, literalmente, un cúmulo de historias que se salen de lo común, algunas de ellas incluso llegan a generar muchísima ansiedad debido a la eficiencia del método de descripción de Allan Poe, él utiliza la retórica en su narrativa, algo muy propio de los escritores de siglos pasados, pero esto le aporta mucha elegancia al relato y a veces intensifica el aura oscura y gótica de cada historia. En el poema El Cuervo, por ejemplo casi puedes sentir la incertidumbre y la presión del protagonista que mira al ave posada sobre el busto de Palas, un ave que solo pronuncia una frase “Nunca más” y esta frase se fue tornando cada vez más lapidaria hasta sacar de sus casillas al protagonista, lo cual me hace reflexionar sobre los propios pensamientos, muchas veces es nuestra propia mente la que nos juega malas pasadas, nuestra consciencia hace eco de todo lo que hemos hecho o hemos dejado de hacer, y nos atormenta incansable e implacablemente, el cuervo es entonces una representación de la propia consciencia, al menos en mi opinión
I really liked the narrative because each story is truly entertaining yet thought-provoking. Speaking specifically about this edition of the book, I like it because it has large print, very large print, something that people my age certainly appreciate. It also contains very elegant and immersive illustrations and comes with a nice bookmark that is very useful for when you want to stop reading.
Me gustó mucho la narrativa porque cada historia es realmente entretenida pero a la vez muy reflexiva, y hablando como tal de esta edición del libro en particular me agrada porque tiene letras grandes, muy grandes, algo que la gente de mi edad sabe apreciar desde luego, también contiene ilustraciones muy elegantes e inmersivas y además trae un bonito marca páginas que resulta muy útil para cuando quieres dejar de leer.
Each of the ten stories in the book is enigmatic, most of them narrated in the first person, making them more personal. In this edition, they added some quotes from Allan Poe at the end of each story. The prologue is quite substantial and contains many interesting facts about the author's biography, something I appreciate because it allows me to get to know him better and understand how much of himself he put into his stories.
cada una de las diez historias que contiene el libro es enigmática , la mayoría narradas en primera persona, haciendo que se vuelvan más personales, y en esta edición añadieron algunas frases de Allan Poe al final de cada relato, el prólogo está bastante nutrido y contiene muchos datos interesantes de la biografía del autor, algo que agradezco porque me permite conocerlo más a fondo y entender así cuanto de él mismo puso en sus cuentos.
It was truly wonderful to find this book in my house. It belongs to my daughter, and I didn't even know she had it, but it was a great companion during those tedious afternoons when there was no electricity. Thank you very much for your attention. I hope you enjoyed this review.
De verdad que fue muy grato haber encontrado este libro en mi casa, es de mi hija y yo ni siquiera sabía que lo tenía pero fue un gran acompañante durante las tardes de tedio cuando no hay luz eléctrica. Muchas gracias por toda su atención, espero que les haya gustado esta reseña.

Although I read very frequently, these random days where there’s no electricity, forces me back to my hardcopy books stacked in shelves all around my house. I’ve become so accustomed to reading digitally that there now has to be a reason for me to read physically.
For the sale reason you mentioned, I’m also a huge fan of using the 1st person narrative. It fosters better understanding between the readers and the author’s intention.
I still prefer the classics hehe, I think nothing can replace the feel of the pages or their particular smell, precisely the fact that I can read even if there is no electricity because I don't need to charge a device, of course, that doesn't mean I don't read digitally, there are times when I have had to do it because I couldn't get the physical book in a bookstore and in this sense I consider it an advantage.
