Animal ESP/ENG (Personal opinion)
Antón is a veterinarian accustomed to living and working in a rural environment in Galicia (Spain). Suddenly, he is forced to seek new horizons when he notices that almost all his clients pay him with farm products like milk and eggs, which certainly helps but becomes useless when it comes to paying the monthly bills. So, he has no choice but to accept his niece Uxia's proposal to work as a veterinarian in a very sophisticated pet shop called Kawanda. This represents a new challenge for the country veterinarian and certainly many funny situations, but it also invites us to reflect on some aspects that we don't perceive at first glance, perhaps because in the city we tend to normalize them.
Antón es un veterinario acostumbrado a vivir y trabajar en un entorno rural de Galicia (España) de pronto se ve forzado a buscar nuevos horizontes al notar que casi todos sus clientes le pagan con recursos de granja como leche y huevos, algo que ciertamente viene bien pero se vuelve inútil a la hora de pagar las facturas mensuales, así que no tiene más opción que aceptar la propuesta de su sobrina Uxia de trabajar como veterinario en una tienda de mascotas muy sofisticada que se llama Kawanda, esto representa un nuevo desafío para el veterinario de campo y desde luego muchas situaciones graciosas, pero también nos invita a reflexionar sobre algunos aspectos que no percibimos a simple vista, tal vez porque en la ciudad tendemos a normalizarlo.
The first thing I noticed, and in fact the series was carefully designed to make you notice it, is the stark difference between the environments Anton moves in as a veterinarian and as a person. One is rural and classic, with authentic and pragmatic characters, although this doesn't exempt them from making mistakes. The other is an urban environment. Kawanda is full of surreal characters, or at least that's how Anton perceives them. The owners of his patients (all kinds of pets) invent a series of illnesses that sound more like whims, and this whole obsession with "humanizing" animals ends up robbing them of their dignity and peace, something the protagonist (Anton) perceives very well because, unlike the rest of the Kawanda staff, he is transparent and direct. He's not willing to lie or disguise anything; his one and only true priority is the animals' well-being. But this ironically contrasts with the company's objective, so the series exposes the hypocrisy of modern society and the superficiality of the corporate culture that many companies operate under. at the moment.
Lo primero que noté, y de hecho la serie fue cuidadosamente diseñada para que lo notes, es la abismal diferencia entre los entornos en los que se mueve Antón como veterinario y como persona, uno es rural y clásico, con personajes auténticos y pragmáticos, aunque esto no los exime de cometer sus errores, y el otro es un ambiente urbano, Kawanda está llena de personajes surrealistas, o al menos así los percibe Antón, los dueños de sus pacientes (todo tipo de mascotas) se inventan una serie de enfermedades que más bien suenan como caprichos, y toda esta obsesión por "humanizar" a los animales termina por arrebatarles su dignidad y paz, algo que el protagonista (Antón) percibe muy bien, porque a diferencia del resto del personal de Kaweanda, él es transparente y directo, no está dispuesto a mentir ni a disfrazar nada, su única y verdadera prioridad es el bienestar de los animales, pero esto irónicamente contrasta con el objetivo de la empresa, así que la serie expone la hipocresía de la sociedad moderna y la superficialidad de la cultura corporativa que muchas empresas manejan actualmente.
Today's corporate culture lacks true purpose; everything revolves around climbing the ladder and boosting numbers, regardless of the well-being of employees or customers. It's all about metrics, and this series reflects that perfectly. Everyone wants to meet the standard, not fall behind, follow new trends, and become the best, but Antón doesn't fit in with this because he's a pragmatic and objective man, though not perfect. In fact, the crisis in the agricultural sector forces him to make a decision he later regrets. And this is something I appreciate because the series doesn't present us with one-dimensional or stereotypical characters; on the contrary, they are diverse and multifaceted, which makes them more realistic.
La cultura corporativa actual carece de verdadera vocación, todo se basa en escalar posición y elevar números, sin importar el bienestar de los trabajadores o los clientes, todo es cuestión de métricas, y es algo que esta serie refleja muy bien. Todos quieren cumplir con el estándar, no quedarse atrás, seguir nuevas tendencias y volverse los mejores, pero Antón no va en sintonía con esto porque es un hombre pragmático y objetivo, aunque no es perfecto, de hecho la crisis que hay en el campo lo orilla a tomar una decisión de la cuál se arrepiente más tarde. Y esto es algo que me gusta porque la serie no nos muestra personajes lineales o estereotipados, al contrario son variopintos y con variantes, lo cuál los vuelve más realistas.
The relationship between Uxia and Anton is complex and gives rise to many conflicts and funny situations. The two are very different, but in the end it becomes a symbiotic relationship of feedback, in which each learns from the other. She becomes a little more realistic and pragmatic, while Anton learns to be more tactful when talking to clients or expressing an idea.
La relación que hay entre Uxia y Antón es compleja y da pie a muchos conflictos y situaciones graciosas, los dos son muy diferentes, pero al final de cuentas se vuelve una relación simbiótica de retroalimentación, en la cuál cada uno aprende del otro, ella se vuelve un poco más realista y pragmática, mientras que Antón aprendió a tener más tacto a la hora de hablar con los clientes o de expresar una idea.
The pacing of the narrative is excellent; it flows very well, making each episode quite entertaining. The acting was certainly very good, but most of the characters are rather minor, as the series places almost all the weight on Uxia and Antón (Luis Zahera and Lucia Caraballo), and they do a fantastic job. I was especially surprised by Luis Zahera, whom I had seen a couple of times before (if I'm not mistaken) in villainous roles. It only has a few episodes, so it can be watched in a short amount of time. I highly recommend it if you're looking for something that's both entertaining and thought-provoking.
El ritmo de la narrativa es muy bueno, fluye bastante, así que cada episodio resulta muy divertido, las actuaciones estuvieron ciertamente muy buenas, pero la mayoría de los personajes son muy poco relevantes pues la serie deja caer casi todo el peso sobre Uxia y Antón (Luis Zahera y Lucia Caraballo) y la verdad es que lo hacen muy bien, en especial me sorprendió Luis Zahera, a quién yo había visto previamente en un par de ocasiones (si no me equivoco) en papeles de villano. Consta de pocos episodios, así que se puede ver en poco tiempo, así que la recomiendo mucho por si necesitan ver algo con lo que se puedan divertir pero al mismo tiempo reflexionar.
