I had wanted to read this book for a long time, as I had read some reviews about it and a friend of mine highly recommended it, so I finally had the opportunity to read it and I became so absorbed that I couldn't stop reading until I finished it, which took me less than a week.
Hace tiempo que yo quería leer este libro, pues había leído algunas reseñas sobre él y un amigo mío me lo recomendó mucho, así que finalmente tuve la oportunidad de leerlo y fue tal mi abstracción que no pude parar de leer hasta terminarlo, lo cuál me tomó menos de una semana.
George Orwell offers us a dystopian universe in his novel, whose story unfolds in Oceania, which is under the totalitarian and controlling regime of The Party and the feared omnipresent figure of Big Brother. In this way, all citizens are monitored through screens, but at some point Winston Smith, who is an official who works for the Ministry of Truth, begins to question the system. He knows that there are things that are not right and decides to rebel, but unfortunately, he is caught.
George Orwell nos ofrece un universo distópico en su novela, cuya historia se desarrolla en Oceanía, la cuál está bajo el Régimen totalitario y controlador de El Partido y la temida figura omnipresente de El Gran Hermano, de esta manera todos los ciudadanos son vigilados a través de pantallas, pero en algún punto Winston Smith que es un funcionario que trabaja para el Ministerio de la Verdad comienza a cuestionar el sistema, sabe que hay cosas que no están bien y decide rebelarse pero lamentablemente es atrapado.
The novel presents an interesting and exciting narrative, keeping us on the edge of our seats for most of the time and generating a great deal of anticipation in the reader. Above all, it promotes critical thinking by showing us how dangerous a society can be when governed by a leader who doesn't accept dissent, or worse, brutally represses it. However, despite beginning this adventure with enthusiasm, hope, and seemingly a promising start, the atmosphere for the protagonist becomes increasingly oppressive, bleak, and distressing. You even begin to question everyone around him; you no longer know who you can or can't trust. This is very thought-provoking because in real life we often think we know what a dictatorship means; we think we've seen it up close or even lived through it. But the harsh reality goes far beyond what we've seen or experienced. It's the suppression of all thought through pain, fear, and uncertainty. No shouting slogans or expressing yourself freely on public transport or in the street—that would be unthinkable.
La novela presenta una narrativa interesante y emocionante, la mayoría de las veces nos mantiene en tensión y genera muchas, muchas expectativas en el lector, pero sobre todo promueve el pensamiento crítico al mostrarnos lo peligroso que puede resultar una sociedad gobernada por un líder que no acepta disidencias, o peor aún que las reprime brutalmente, sin embargo, y a pesar de que iniciamos esta aventura con entusiasmo, esperanza y al parecer viento en popa, el ambiente para el protagonista se va tornando cada vez más opresivo, gris y angustiante, incluso comienzas a cuestionar a todos los que están entorno a él, ya no sabes en quien puedes o no confiar. Y esto es muy reflexivo porque en la vida real muchas veces creemos conocer lo que significa una dictadura, creemos haberla visto de cerca o incluso haberla vivido, pero la cruda realidad va más allá de lo que hemos visto o vivido, es la supresión de todo pensamiento mediante el dolor, el miedo y la incertidumbre, nada de gritar consignas o expresarte libremente en el transporte público o la calle, eso sería impensable.

Smith's thoughts are very reflective and real; he feels the need to do something, to generate change, but how? His only refuge is silence, the solitude of his thoughts, but he knows that in this way it is impossible to transcend, so he considers the idea of writing a diary for future generations. However, the outlook becomes increasingly bleak, which makes him question whether this would really be worthwhile, and this led me to reflect on the following: how much is a human being capable of enduring?
Los pensamientos de Smith son muy reflexivos y reales, siente la necesidad de hacer algo, de generar un cambio pero ¿Cómo hacerlo? su único refugio es el silencio, la soledad de sus pensamientos, pero sabe que de esta manera es imposible trascender, así que se plantea la idea de escribir un diario para las futuras generaciones, sin embargo el panorama se va volviendo cada vez más lóbrego, lo cuál lo hará cuestionarse acerca de si realmente esto valdría o no la pena, y esto me llevó a reflexionar lo siguiente: ¿hasta dónde es capaz de soportar un ser humano?.
Of course, it's important to consider the era in which this novel was written, 1949. That is, four years after the end of World War II, the world was in the midst of the Cold War, with everyone watching the Soviet Union, fearing that communism would spread beyond its borders. However (without intending to be politically biased, especially since I didn't live through that period of conflict), but precisely using critical thinking, I believe that human beings often allow their minds to be manipulated and are swayed by others' opinions. They don't investigate, much less analyze; they simply believe. Since the Cold War, much has been said about communism and capitalism (each demonizing the other), but almost no one has bothered to analyze them in detail and objectively to try to understand the concepts and find the good and bad in both.
Claro, es importante tomar en cuenta la época en la que fue escrita esta novela 1949, es decir hacía cuatro años se había terminado la segunda guerra mundial y estaba el mundo en plena guerra fría, con el mundo pendiente de La Unión Soviética, temiendo que el comunismo se expandiera hasta más allá de sus fronteras, sin embargo (sin ánimos de parcializarme políticamente, mucho menos porque no viví esa época de conflictos) pero haciendo uso precisamente del pensamiento crítico, creo que muchas veces los seres humanos dejan que manipulen sus mentes y se dejan llevar por opiniones ajenas, no investigan y mucho menos analizan, solo creen y ya. Desde los tiempos de la guerra fría mucho se ha dicho sobre el comunismo y el capitalismo (cada uno satanizando al otro) pero casi nadie se ha puesto a analizarlos a detalle y de forma objetiva para tratar de entender los conceptos y encontrar lo bueno y lo malo de ambos.
