The Story Behind My Hive Username

Hive is a big community with thousands of people, and it's quite exciting each time you get to meet different people on the blockchain. One of those things that usually catches my attention is people's usernames, because they're usually different, unique, and the like—and I can't help but wonder what's the story behind them. I mean, some seem creative, some are coined out of two or more words or a word related to their craft or skills, and we've got some that are just outrightly strange. And because of these, I'd like to share the story behind my Hive username and hope to get others to tell me how they came about theirs in the comments section.

There have been several occasions where I'm guiding people I wanted to invite to the Hive Blockchain on creating their account, and I can remember one of the many issues we encounter is how the username they want to use might have already been taken by someone else entirely, and these often lead to picking something else, including a number or alphabet to it, or even getting creative to have something personal, so for some of these people I understand their usernames are randomly chosen as a suggestion from a bot or just an inclusion of numbers to what they already have so they can just get through the account creation stage.

For me personally, my username, vickoly, wasn't something that was created in a rush because I didn't have options or the system said what I presented first wasn't available. The username vickoly was actually my first option, and I was lucky it hadn't been taken, so I could easily go on with my account creation. But then I know you might be wondering how I came up with the name. Well, "Vickoly" was coined from my name, Victor, and it has been a nickname I was known by for years because I've been called "Vickoly" by my peers right from my secondary days.

Just like any other teenager back then, I also wanted to have a unique nickname that's not only cool but is also unique, and that's how I came by the nickname, and it even became popular during those days when I used to visit the game shop to play PlayStation 2. I remember on PS2 I created a career with a player I built; that segment of PS2 is known as "become a legend." After creating the character, I named him after myself and was able to groom him from being an average player to becoming a world-class player that scores goals and won numerous trophies and individual awards, such as world's best.

Back then, it was like I was the one winning, getting all that recognition, and given the fact that other people played that career mode on PS2 but couldn't get their character to that level, it made me become popular in that game house and to my peers, who gradually started calling me Vickoly, unlike the Victor they used to call me in the past, and seeing how cool it was, I just stuck by it till then, and that's how it's been to date.

So basically I'm used to my username, like it, and even if an opportunity shows up for me to change it, I won't change it because I like the name.
