My Costliest Investment and Why I Don’t Regret It
We all purchased a lot of things throughout the just-concluded year, those that are very expensive and those that are cheaper. Be they very useful or partially, they make up our purchases, and for some of these purchases, we look back, and it makes us proud of the decision we made to buy them, while others make us feel bad, probably because they're the result of impulse buying and end up being less important to our course or journey in the just-concluded year. Like I said, I bought a lot of things last year, but for this write-up today, I'll be talking about the most expensive thing I purchased last year, what it is, and if I appreciated the deal or regretted it.

Talking about the most expensive thing I purchased last year is more like a continuation of the last prompt topic that asked us to write about the biggest risk we took in the year 2025. If you can remember, I wrote about taking a drastic decision to make a purchase that's so expensive that it involves taking a loan to fund the purchase because it was more or like the entire amount I'm supposed to earn as a salary from January till December. So what then is that thing I purchased, which not only was a big risk, like I said last week, but also was the most expensive thing I purchased last year?
Well, what I purchased was a piece of land; it's half a plot of land around where I stay. I've talked about my dream of being a house owner, and so when I saw the opportunity to bring that dream to a reality bit by bit, I didn't think twice before I started making an effort to make sure I got the land for myself, because it'll be good to be the first step towards bringing my dream to reality. I had made many inquiries and visited various lands, but most are usually too expensive, too far from civilization, or something else, so when I saw this one, I felt it was much better, and I had to try to get it. Although it was also expensive, I still went for it.
The purchase of the land cost me one point six million naira, and that's literally the most expensive thing I've purchased in my life to date. Aside from the fee for the name, I still needed some money for the paperwork and different documents that'll cement me as the rightful owner of the land, and those also cost me over three hundred thousand naira, so in total we can say that the most expensive thing I purchased in the just-concluded year cost me two million naira in total if we include the paperwork and all documentation fees.

So was the purchase worth it? Yes, it's definitely worth every penny, and I don't regret taking that decision, because it's one step towards bringing my dream to pass. Talking about if I'll happily spend money on such things over and over again, my response is, why not? Although I'd love to complete the first project on the first land purchase, if peradventure I have the means to buy as much land as possible, I'll definitely go for it because I know it's an investment I'll not lose on, simply because landed property mostly appreciates here in Nigeria and does not depreciate.
