Maintaining Peace: A Story of Sacrifice and Understanding
When it comes to human relations with each other, it's quite difficult for you not to experience one misunderstanding or another that could lead to disagreement, fighting, and ultimately the absence of peace. In order to rectify this, there are situations where we just have to go out of our ways to sacrifice something just so peace can reign once again. I've been in this situation on several occasions, and today I'll love to share one of them with you.
Firstly, it's worth noting that although I'm a peace-loving individual, I don't love being rude or seeing someone belittling me or using their status to oppress me, and on such occasions, regardless of your status, I tend to voice out and speak my mind, because on most occasions, keeping quiet in the face of accusations could be misunderstood for guilt. But then there was this rare occasion where I just overlooked all that, and without further ado, let's delve into it.
So several years ago, after graduating from university, I couldn't get a reasonable white collar job, so for the time being, I saw a position of sales representative open at one of my church members business branches, and I decided to take the role, so I'll at least have something to do and also earn before I get a decent job that befits my qualifications. I only worked at that place for 8 months before leaving, but some matters arose while I was leaving and after I was gone, which annoys me and makes me wish I had never worked there in the first place.
So it happened that I wasn't really into the job as it was very far from what I'm passionate about, and I opted to leave, but months before I left, seven of my boss's other sales representatives in his other branches were stealing his money, and it was very difficult for him to find out about the nature of the job and how accurate their records seemed to be. However, he luckily detected it, and after that, I started frutonizing and scrutinizing the other records to find lapses, but he found none, and I guess that fact that I told him I wanted to resign after a month of that incident annoys him and also makes him suspicious.
But then I tender my resignation letter and leave, but before I left, I was hoping he'd be the one to come and take the key from me on my last day, but he didn't, and all of the explanations I wanted to give him about my sales had to be relayed to the person he sent to come and take the key from me, so I explained everything to the replacement and told him I've got some people who pay me on installments to buy some of our goods, but I won't be giving him their money, because I know my boss is fond of angrily sacking his worker, and if I give him such money and he ends up getting sacked before the person comes, then I'll be in debt if he doesn't remit the money.
So I held on to it and told him to help me tell the boss about the situation so I can personally send him the money, or else I'll wait till the person paying to me comes so I can send the money then, but since I left, I never heard anything about it again. Until about two months after my former boss called me angrily over the phone and started calling me names, like thief and the like, I was angry, but as I didn't know why such a statement came up, I tried to calm him down to hear what he had to say.
He later went on to explain the situation and started calling me names again. Then I tried to explain, but he wasn't listening, so I cut the call, and then he called back angrily more than ever, asking why I cut the call on him. Then I said if you're not willing to hear me out, then there's no point in me listening to what you're saying, so he calmed down and listened. Then I reminded him of how I was calling him tirelessly after I resigned so I could inform him about how someone was paying me on installments, but he refused to pick up my calls out of anger.
I said that was what I wanted to tell him. I also told him how I told the replacement he sent to relay the message to him, and he said, Why didn't I drop the money on the replacement? I told him I knew how often he sacked people, and had he sacked the boy, then I wouldn't have evidence and might have to still lay another loan. To cut a long story short, in truth, he sacked the boy, and I had to call him to confirm if I told him about that transaction or not.
In the long run, I send the money that individuals have been paying for, and that was how he took his goods, and my former boss was also dumbfounded by everyone beside him when he was calling me all of those names; he had no choice but to stylishly apologize, and I felt relieved and glad I handled the situation with a sacrifice of calmness, or else things might have escalated if I got angry and also called him names. Looking back, I guess I'll still do the same thing again because it saved the day and gave me a good name and reputation.
Thanks so much for your time, have a lovely day and stay bless.

You showed a lot of maturity here, if I was the one I don't know what I would have done, especially when he started calling you thief. This is part of the reasons why I don't like working under anyone.
It's kind of Annoying, but knowing his nature and not wanting things to go beyond that I just had to calm down.
You did the right sir, I admire your calmness and way of handling things, I have a lot to learn in this life hehe

.It is very natural to have times where things will not just work like normal things are to be...
And then sacrifices to make peace when will just be what will make us survive...

You did really well.
Yea it's indeed normal.
Some people just make mess of themselves when they refuse to listen to your story thinking they can do whatever they want but in the end, they feel stupid in the presence of other people. I love how you even handled him on phone, people shouldn't think they can just lash out words anyhow to others without listening to their own side of the story.
Imagine if you'd given the replacement the money and he went away with it, the blame would be much on you, making you pay for what you know nothing about.
