If I Became President: My First Two Battles Would Be -

If I were to become the president of my dear country, Nigeria, there are loads of major struggles one can delve into to resolve, and regardless of which one you curb or complete, I'm sure the citizens will remember you for that, from ex-president Obasanjo, the one who paved the way for GSM in Nigeria, to ex-president Yaradua's intervention in reducing the price of fuel to as low as 65 naira per liter. All of these are still well remembered, given the fact that people still use smartphones to this day and also know what it means to get fuel for such a cheap price, so if I were to be the president and could only tackle two major issues, which would I face and why?

Like I said above, there are tons of major issues available to solve in Nigeria because it's as though most of our recent leaders are just holding the position for holding's sake and enriching their pockets without doing anything substantial to better the lives of the people. It's just crazy. We've got issues with unemployment, insecurity, poor power supply, high cost of living, high cost of healthcare and education, and many others, and after critical examination, I've come to decide that the first two major struggles of the citizens I'll be tackling head-on are electricity and insecurity. I believe these two issues have caused far more suffering to the people and as well slowed down the pace of development, hindering investors and tourists from coming to explore the beauty of our land and the like. It has literally affected the everyday life of the citizens, ultimately giving people unnecessary difficulties.

Starting with electricity, it's no longer news that the lack of stable electricity in this country has become an embarrassing norm. I mean, neighboring countries often refer to us as the generator republic. It's a shame for a country that claims to be the giant of Africa, a giant that can't even give her citizens stable electricity. While top world countries panic for not having a power supply for hours, here in my country, communities can go as far as eight months without electricity. It's crazy, especially when you see the government, who ought to fix the issue, resolve to invest in solar energy to power the presidential villa alone. Isn't that ridiculous?

Electricity is an important basic need in our electronic-driven world, and it's ridiculous how we lack it in a nation that's blessed with tons of mineral resources. Basically, almost every sector needs electricity to function effectively, from market women to office workers to transportation and several others, so that's why I'll be investing heavily in solving their crisis, not just the already existing source of electricity we've got, but also delving into alternative sources of energy, such as solar, wind, hydro, and so on, so we won't solely rely on the traditional one, which often results in failing grids on a regular basis.

Onto the next, insecurity, it no longer use the insecurity is one of the major pleague that has befall the country rights of the days of ex president Goodluck, back then we use to only have Boko Haram terrorizing the north eastern part of the country, fast forward to present day, we not only have them, but also kidnapers, bandit, unknown gun men, and several others to name but few, All of these pose dangers to the lives of not just the citizens, but also to their businesses, even crumbling the nation's economy, as investors are afraid of coming in so they won't become victims of the rising insecurity. Even all the nature parks and beauty we've got can't attract tourists for sightseeing because of the rise in insecurity.

So, as president, I'll prioritize intelligence gathering of information, community policing, and proper training and equipping of our security agencies so they'll have modern weapons and intelligence to combat insecurity and reinstate peace into our beloved country. Our military and police won't be meant for political parades or dignitaries' guards while the nation is suffering, so the majority of the security agency should be at their duty post or fighting insecurity and corruption, not protecting gullible politicians or yahoo boys.

Nigeria as a nation isn't just blessed with natural resources but also human resources. The only thing we lack is a leadership that's genuinely committed to solving problems we've got, and all they do is just recycle the same excuse of the previous administration. As a president won't do the same. Instead, I'll invest in these things and several others to better the lives of Nigerians, and I'm choosing to start with these two because I believe once these two are in place, every other aspect of our lives will naturally begin to improve, from the price of fuel reducing due to low demand to investors coming in to do business and the like.
