The pros and cons of price cap

Price cap is there putting a limit to how high or low a product or good can be sold. The real question now is, is price cap a good thing?

I think it is very important, especially when many people are poor and struggling. Without the price cap, a lot of business owners will sell at very high prices so they can make a lot of profit. Although sometimes when they sell at low prices, the retailers want to get plenty profit and hereby inflate the prices anyhow.

I read something a few days ago on one drink company, Odogwu bitters. A customer messaged them and complained about their prices being too high that they should reduce it so people can afford it and the customer care official from the company went on to explain that the inflation is not from them, that they sell at fair price. After I read this, I couldn't say anything other than shake my head and I know that is what is going on in most places, when company sells at a reasonable price the retailers put a lot of gain on it because of greed.

That is when it comes to the customers now let's talk about the business owners. Price cap can be hard for them if the cost of buying products from supplier goes up and there is a price cap, the business owner won't be able to increase the price to make gain and this can lead to a loss.

Should business owners be free to fix prices anyhow they want and when they want?
They should not be free to do such. We are humans and a lot of humans are greedy, if given such opportunity or chance, they will make things too expensive for people to buy and a lot of people will suffer for it.

I believe balance is important here. Government should not make prices too low for owners to suffer, instead they should study the market and fix prices that are good for both the sellers and buyers so all can benefit.

There are some products that the prices need to be controlled because they are basic needs, products like medicine, baby products and food. Without them, people can suffer and even die. But when it comes to some other items, sellers should be allowed to fix the price they think is right but nothing too high by the way. Products like luxury items and personal services.

When you go to the market and some other places where products are being sold, you'll see that all prices are not the same. Some producers and sellers do sell at cheaper price just so they can have more customers and sell more goods and this brings a very unhealthy competition.

What I am basically saying is that price cap is good when it is done right. It can protect the prices, the people and also help to stop greedy business practices. Business owners should be able to make profit and buyers should also be able to buy the things they need.
