Sipping into the holiday spirit : my favorite Christmas beverages

Christmas is a special time of the year. It's full of happiness and laughter and the pleasures of family and friends. Food and beverage will be available all season long. I like the festive menus, but I also look forward to the beverages. Although alcohol is liked by most people around Christmas, it is something I don't like. I prefer soft drinks and non-alcoholic wine. These drinks make the celebration feel complete for me.

One drink I truly love during Christmas is Fanta. The bright orange color always catches my attention, and the fizzy, sweet taste makes me happy. No matter how much I eat, Fanta has room to breathe. The sensation is energizing and refreshing and I enjoy the cooling effect in hot weather. Fanta also reminds me of my childhood, when my siblings and I would drink it while decorating the house for Christmas. Still now, it still casts back that happy, carefree feeling with every sip of it.

Sprite is another drink I enjoy during Christmas. It is, effervescent, light, and tart with a lemon flavor. Sprite is just right for times when I want something light and not too sweet. I usually have it with snacks or during breaks after a tiring day of cooking and cleaning. The cool sensation of Sprite leaves me feeling cool and refreshed. Sometimes, my family jokes about how I finish my drink so quickly, but I can’t help it—it’s just too good!

Coke is a kind of drink which I also enjoy during Christmas. It is darker in color and has a more intense taste than the other soft drinks but I enjoy it that way. Coke feels luxurious and thick, especially when drinking it with rice and meat. My husband enjoys Coke too, so we often share a bottle and laugh about how much we love it. It’s like a small tradition for us during the holidays.

Non-alcoholic wine is another beverage that I always get excited about during the Christmas season. It feels fancy and special, and I like that I can drink it without worrying about getting drunk. The flavour is sweet, and it is creamy, and when I hear everyone "raising their glasses" I feel like I'm in the middle of the celebration. My aunt usually brings non-alcoholic wine when she visits, and we all enjoy it together. To me, it's a good way to enjoy the holidays in style.

I don't know how festive periods are in other countries but in Nigeria festive periods are a big deal especially Christmas, Christmas is never complete without plenty of drinks. Therefore, we make sure to have sufficient quantities of Fanta, Sprite, Coke, and non-alcoholic wine, etc., so that all can find something which they really enjoy. These beverages come together and contribute to the joy of the holiday.

No matter how many years that go by, I know that these drinks will always be a part of my Christmas celebration.
