Investing in a brighter future:my strategy for managing a windfall
Hello everyone this entry is in response to day 27 of the #januaryinleo which was organized by the @leogrowthteam.
If I am given 30 million naira to spend in a week, the first thing I would do is sit down and think carefully. That's a heap of money, and, if I'm not careful, it can just as easily disappear as I bring it in. I do obviously understand what a real job is like and I will not throw good money after bad. But, I'm going instead to put it to work, in some way, for me, for my family, and maybe even for others in the future.
The first thing I would do is buy land. Land are a good investment in the sense that the value naturally increases. I would look around for a good place, where it will one day be possible to build something useful. Although I may not gain it now, I am very confident I can sell it for a lot of money in the near future, or even build on it later if need be.
After buying land, I would invest in a business. I am an avid baker with the dream of one day owning my own bakery. Using part of the money, I get a wonderful shop, a good quality baking gear and a whole stock of ingredients to use. I can convince people to help me make the business expand rapidly. That way I will not only be making money for myself, but I will also be creating jobs for others.
I would also invest in agriculture. Food is a significant part of the human experience, and with food prices ever increasing agriculture is a natural career choice. I can buy land for farming and grow crops, such as rice and maize, and vegetables. Also, I can introduce capital in poultry husbandry, which includes raising the chickens and selling the eggs. In that way, I will have a perpetual cash flow.
As I am a charitable person I spare money "just in case" someone in need of help arises. There are so many people struggling, and I know how it feels to lack something important. I would like to care for widows, orphans, and elderly people without anyone to look after them. Though it may be that I am not able to change everyone, I will be hAppY knowng I have changed at least some.
I would also invest in my personal growth. I would take professional courses to improve my skills. Education and knowledge are immensely useful and learning more will help me to grow my business and my portfolio. I would also stockpile some money for my child's education since I hope to give them the best future that is available.
Finally, I would keep some money aside for emergencies. Life is, not to mention, a random experience and anything can happen anytime and anyplace. Instead of wasteful expenditure of all the funds, I've put some of the funds in reserve in case of any unforeseen problem, I will not have to absorb the cost.
For 30 million naira, it is a golden opportunity, I won't make a fool's throw and spend it on pointless things. I will make the best use of it, so that not only even after all the seven days have passed, the positive change is still noticeable. I am a person who strongly believes in choosing well and that I would maintain that money working in my favour once it is put in my hands.
