What a Profession:
I'd be honest, I'm one of those who just let society, the state of the country and direction of the wind, blow me to the profession I am today.
It's been a while since I showed up here, let's say i've relapsed.
I introduced myself here as a ""student" rAdioGrApher"" and to be sincere its been bite
First, it's noteworthy that I just happened to choose this course not knowing anything about it, but taking the words of people around me who love me (family)
Now, I'm here and I've grown to love this profession.
A Radiographer is a medical professional who makes use of various modalities of imaging to view or visualize the deeper and inner, unseen parts of the human body for diagnostic purposes.
Short put: a photographer, who sees through you. Or as we call ourselves 'the eyes of modern medicine'
I'm pretty sure when I graduate and I'm at an interview for a job, I can proudly say I have 4 years experience.
Why not, because I have been taking my clinical postings very seriously.
There could be times when you just feel,
Is this not too much ?
Are my other coursemates not out there doing good with their lives ?
But when you sit to think of it, what better good is there than to volunteer to help and assist the Ill people get back to health.
There are times you see the condition of people and you wonder: this could actually happen to someone?
I should stop doing the stuff he was doing that got him into this situation.
Stop using vehicles
Stop climbing trees
Stop smoking and drinking (which I don't, thank God)
Stop eating ?
And so many more, I have once thought to myself, i'd never allow my Wife through this kind of pain because of a baby, instead we would adopt one.
But, maybe that's just the emotional me speaking.
Aside from the help, I also love the Radiographers I work with. I feel sometimes like there is a separate course they offer to teach them kindness, because they are the epitome of it, and this is what I aspire for
Since I started my clinicals
I've been to;
Ikorodu General Hospital,
St Raphael Divine Mercy specialist Hospital,
Anua Hospital, Uyo,
UU Teaching Hospital, Uyo,
Premier, water fountain,
Beacon, Aka Road
Streaming, Uyo.
7 different hospitals, and I have not seen it all, there is a lot to this profession.
An ore that has its surface barely scratched .
There are Conventional X rays, MRI, CT, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, nuclear medicine and more.
I stand in awe.🫢
There are a lot of joyful things to attract but still some challenges we face in this profession.
I HOPE SOME LEARNED COLLEAGUES OUT THERE COULD HELP ME WITH THIS ONE
To not bore you, I'd just highlight the points,
Excluding students from learning or witnessing ultrasound during their posting.
Higher cost of machines, leading their "not-being-too-used, or seen.
The downs and Stochastic effects of ionizing radiation.
Need for more lecturers.
In all, you see Radiography?
I love it .... And sure that every other person in this field shares in this passion.
Secondary school registration is probably the only time I have had the experience with Radiographers, when we were asked to get chest x rays, so they know our health status
With this I share in your light that Radiographers are the best in the medical field when it comes to Patients' Empathy.
I hope you achieve your dreams 🤌🏻
