Wednesday walk in village Drachevo

1.jpg

My Wednesday walk today is in the Bulgarian village Drachevo, located in the Strandzha Mountain.

My husband wanted to help a friend of ours to do some work in the garden and during that time I decided to find Chapel of Saint John the Baptist, that I had heard was located around the village.

I had already visited the village another time and had an idea of where to head as a starting point to the chapel. I hope that by following the signs, they will lead me to the chapel.

I crossed the broken bridge and headed towards the center.

The day was sunny and pleasant, and the courtyards of the houses in the village were full of people doing all kinds of activities.

The center was also bustling.

There was a sign next to the bus stop that showed me where to go to the chapel.

I walked down one of the streets.

There were no signs or markings at the next fork, so I asked the locals where to continue.

I continued along a dirt path and it was very pleasant to find thyme along it. First I smelled its aroma and then I saw it - it had bloomed in several places in charming little tufts.

I got a little confused about the paths but it was interesting because I was looking at the houses and discovering interesting things around them.

I saw this old bridge.

I found an old fountain built in 1939.

I enjoyed these cool cacti.

After a few more conversations with the locals, I found the chapel.

Several people had already warned me that the chapel would probably be closed, and they were right.

It was indeed closed. You couldn't even enter the courtyard and there was no good visibility.

I took a few distant photos, and since a dog from the neighboring house kept barking, I decided to go back, but by a different route.

So besides looking at more houses and more beautiful views, I found more thyme and saw this cute turtle, which concludes today's Wednesday walk.
